Q: Cobra XRS-9740 or Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector ? ?
Cobra XRS-9740 or Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector ? ok so i bought the cobra a week ago and at first it was giving false detection and i was getting really annoyed...once using it for a while it seems to be workin a bit better but i noticed the range isnt too good/// im thinking the product has something wrong with it so im returning it this evening and just wondering if i should stay with the cobra or go for the passport. none of them really give an explicit range...do any of you know ranges for these? whats better or worse between the 2? also...the passport is about 270 the cobra 180, about 100$ more.A:Escort, BEL & Valentine One are by far the best radar detectors in the market. I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra $100 to replace the Cobra you have now if they'll let you do the swap. Far better at filtering out the false detections and has much better detection range (up to 50% better then a Cobra on average). You won't regret the change, trust me.

Q: Tint and radar detector..?
I recently purchased a Passport Escort 8500 x50 radar detector, and was wondering if it would still be effective behind the eyebrow tint of my windshield. Also, tell me what you think of this detector please.A:Yes it will work , not a bad detector. Never been a big fan of radar detectors since if no one is in front of you then all they do is let you know you just got a ticket. Radarroy.com has some pretty good ratings on the newest gadgets. I personally like the jammer /detector combo. Had one in use for three years in commercial vehicle and contrary to reports saying they do not work i would have to disagree. I loved listening to the police repeatedly try to get a reading with the instant on's over and over again until i reached the " punch thru " point. Finally surrendered to the police while doing a random in cab inspection. And it was behind a tint brow-never had a problem as far as performance.

Q: radar detector that 'locks' onto mounting bracket and mounting bracket with good suction cups?
I am looking for an inexpensive radar detector to mount on my motorcyle (i fear it falling off and breaking on the road so i don't want an expensive one.) but because its on a bike i want one that has a secure suction cups and on that actually locks onto the bracket (like my escort passport 8500 x50). anyone seen some radar detectors like that?A:I recommend using RTV or gasket sealant. You can attach the detector pretty much any where you want but when you want to remove it, it will not affect the finish. The majority of all sealers just rub off with a dry rag with very little work.

Q: i need some radar detector help.?
im looking to get a radar detector and im looking at the Escort Passport 8500 X50. i would get the V1 but its out of my budget. i know that the 8500 X50 detects laser but does it also jam it? whats the point of it detecting laser if it doesnt jam it? its already to late!!!A:good point about jamming laser. never speed unless there is a bunch of vehicles, and if you can, try to stay in the right lane just behind another vehicle. the 995 beltronics is a good radar detector as well. so are the newest versions of the whistler. check out all of websites. beltronics.com vector.com whistler.com but stay away from cobra and uniden. Trust ME... I own two 795 series detectors from beltronis and they do good. the 895 is a bit better, and the 995 can operate off of AA batteries, comes with a carry case, leather, and power cord as well. these can usually be found in radio shack. the others, like whistler, can be found in Walmart. Drive safe and God Bless.....hope this helps in your selection. P.S. if you want a radar jammer/laser phaser, you will have to spend around 500 plus, and no the V1 does not do either. the black widow is one that may still offer that kind of setup. its a permanent fix in your car or truck, though.
