A:Whether or not it is corruption, is open to question. There is no doubt that tv and games are training young people in what to think and how to act - the young learn by observing and copying their elders and do not have the discrimination to tell good from bad. Every tv show that they see will teach something - the makers know this full well. The original remit of the BBC was to limit the content so as to minimise this risk - that tv should conform to a single set of rigid values. Those with their own agenda have managed to break this down over the years, sometimes meaning well and sometimes not. It is now a tool of political correctness - for example, I see from my tv that homosexuals are indistinguishable from heterosexuals. In their rights, this is good, but my homosexual friends lead a very different lifestyle from my hetero friends indeed! Did I get your hackles up by deliberately using homosexual instead of gay? I assure you it would work on most, they would anticipate an anti-gay rant just from seeing the word. This is one example of what has been taught. I saw an identikit for the bank robbers that shot PC Sharon Beshinivsky - the news gave their ages, height and clothing. Their skin colour (all being Somalian, as it turned out) was mysteriously omitted. The same with the shooting of the 11 year old in Liverpool - we got an age, a bike and some clothing. His colour was never mentioned. Would this not be critical when seeking witnesses? So yes, kids are being trained at all points. Everybody is selling them something and wants something from them. The only resistance we can offer is to deny tv and video gaming in our homes and make our children look to us instead - but that would be hard work... As for the Japanese, they have an extremely repressed society still and seek their outlets where they can - knowing at all times what the limits of society are. In Britain we offer no such template and it is not to be wondered at that kids push boundaries down so aggressively, as they can rarely be sure where they are anyway! Cheers, Steve.
