100% Q: What are good writing activities for a 13 year old?
Next summer, I think I wanna do a creative writing camp. I need the extra cash. I was wondering if anyone knows any good creative writing activity books. The girls will probably be 13ish to 14ish. I think that if their are any good writing activity books out there I might wanna try some too!
A:There are a lot of creative writing activities right here on YA in the WordPlay section. If you take a little time you can get some interesting ideas. People post some some suggested lines to weave into a story. The offer opening or closing lines for limericks or other poems. Haiku is another popular theme. They ask you to reword a paragraph. One of the toughest has been to write a 50 word story using 50 different words. They list the first part of idiomatic expressions, cliches, proverbs, etc and ask you to change the ending. There are questions about metaphors to describe different feelings or scenes. If you spend a little time every few days over the next few months to sift through the questions, I think you can get a whole bunch of ideas for a writing camp that are fun and really stretch writing skills. In this afterschool creative writing club that I'm in I've been picked to "lead" the next meeting. I have to choose some sort of activity to do while we're there...involving writing. So far we've done things such as looking at an object and writing a narrative about it, picking five words and including them in your work and pulling a setting out of a hat. Anybody have any ideas/activities that would be cool? Thanks in advance ! =] p.s. its high school level
A:How about having everyone close their eyes and think about their favorite place in the world. Once that's done have them write down everything that comes to mind(of course it has to be appropriate) and then developing a story about( could be true or fantasy), or maybe even a poem.

100% Q: Any ideas on fun problem solving activities for a writing lab?
I want the kids to have fun in pairs learning how to do a problem solution essay.They have been writing so much that i want this to be a fun activity in which it involves imagination,some writing, and like a treasure map type of game in which each activity will allow them to move to the next to solve a mystery or get a reward.I mainly want them to undersand the steps in preparing to write these sort of essays instead of writing one long essay.Any ideas.Need them asap.
A:How about you write out a mystery story and use one of those "12 days of Xmas" type story boards where you have to tear open the panels. In order to solve the puzzle they have to read the story and choose the flap with the correct word, except using words which sound similar but have different meanings. Except & accept, wooden and wouldn't, affect and effect. If you want to do it simply just write it on a whiteboard and cover the words you want them to choose between with sticky notes. Have them record their picks and the team with the most correct wins the mystery prize at the end of the story. You better hope there isn't a ten way tie.
