After W/D emerged from Ch. 11 on Nov 6, I lost all of my stock. Can I claim this on income taxes and if so, how?

A:If your stock was cancelled, you can normally deduct your loss. The sale price of the stock is considered to be zero. Report it on Schedule D. You can deduct losses up to your the amount of your capital gains plus $3,000. Excess losses, if any, can be carried over to future years. For more information, go to www.irs.gov and download the instructions for Schedule D and Publication 550.

50% Q: How do I find out if I still have a 401k/stock with Winn Dixie and Wal-Mart if no longer employed by them?

I have already tried "searching" yahoo and google but only phone # I get for WD is cust. svc. for shoppers. Then there is so many sites for Wal-Mart that I was unsure which one would help. I am NOT computer literate so forgive me if this seems simple to some. I have visited the local stores with no help from current employees. Thank you Paul but I forgot to mention I recently moved and did not complete a "forwarding address" card with postal service. So, I haven't received any mail from them.

A:If you have a 401k with Winn Dixie and WalMart, you should have gotten a statement with the name of the 401k. If so, you can call that particular company to find out about your 401k. You should still have a 401k. A 401k is money that you have put in for retirement, so that money is your's!! If you can find a statement, it should have an address or phone number on it.
