100% Q: Do I need a passport to travel to Canada?
I know that the government wants people to start getting passports to travel to canada..but has been passed for those traveling by land yet. They say it may not be a requirement until 2009 until the passport cards are made. Can I still travel into canada without a passport?
A:Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable. As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.

100% Q: Do you need a passport to travel in Canada?
I'm pretty sure than recenty the law passed that you need your passport to travel to the US (if you live in Canada) or anywhere else for that matter, by plane. If you are travelling by plane just in Canada, from say... Toronto to St. Johns, do you need your passport still? I thought you needed it no matter what when you went to an airport, but someone told me the other day you don't need it traveling in Canada.
A:I don't think you need a passport to travel in Canada, but you may need one to get back into the US.

100% Q: Can an American without a passport travel to Canada by air because the US is backed up on applications?
In June, the State Department announced an American could reenter America by air from Canada without a passport, because the US was backed up on passport applications. Does this mean Canada will let in an American who doesn't have a passport?
A:To travel between US/Canada, you need to show that you have applied for a passport AND will need other forms of ID. Take along several. Of course, any country can refuse entry to anyone. So, it's possible (although doubtful) that you'll try to enter Canada and be turned down even with this sort of documentation.

I am a Canadian citizen and I am planning to travel for the first time. It will be WITHIN Canada probably by plane. I thought that a passport was not needed but I heard that now it is?
A:Not for domestic flights, though you will need identification. You only need a passport if you are leaving the country.
