thyroid doctor
The thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. This gland is found in the neck inferior to (below) the thyroid cartilage (also known as the Adam's apple in men) and at approximately the same level as the cricoid cartilage. The thyroid controls how quickly the body burns energy, makes proteins, and how sensitive the body should be to other hormones.....

100% Q: What type of doctor should I see for thyroid evaluation?
My regular doctor has me on thyroid supplement for normal but low thyroid. My symptoms (normal body temperature but freezing all the time) are not helped. There are supposedly thyroid problems that are not detected by regular blood tests. What type of doctor does the more involved thyroid testing?
A:endocrinologist

100% Q: Something was wrong with my Thyroid test and the doctor ordered an MRI to check the pituitary gland. Why?
The doctor didn't give me any details. What can be wrong with the pituitary gland and how is it related to the thyroid?
A:Your thyroid gland (in your neck) produces a hormone called thyroxine (aka T4). Your pituitary gland (in your head, just underneath your brain produces a hormone called thyroid-stimulating hormone (aka TSH). Sometimes a person's thyroid stops working, so the level of T4 in the blood falls, because it is not secreting enough. When this happens, the pituitary gland releases lots of TSH to 'nag' the thyroid - to try and encourage it to make more T4. So if a doctor does a blood test and sees low T4 with high TSH, they think "oh, the thyroid is not working".
In your case, it seems like the doctor saw low T4 and also normal or low TSH. So he/she is wondering - if the T4 is low, why isn't the pituitary responding by releasing more TSH? Could there be something wrong with the pituitary, instead of the thyroid? Perhaps the thyroid is fine and the pituitary has stopped stimulating it. So your doc has ordered a scan to look at the pituitary. I'm guessing you'll have to have some more blood tests to look for other hormones that the pituitary should be making.
This doesn't automatically mean there is definitely something wrong with the pituitary - a lot of people have slightly odd thyroid test results and it means nothing. Genuine pituitary problems are rare, but they often get missed, so doctors are a bit jumpy when there is even a slight suspicion of it.

100% Q: yes this is for a medical doctor. What relationship exists between the thyroid and the adrenal gland?
After many years on the same synthroid and having Graves in my twenties, my thyroid blood test kept showing low TSH levels and then i discovered nodules! The bigger question is what causes nodules? I have very little thyroid left. One thing the doctor is checking adrenal dysfunction (cushings) or pituatary gland? :Symptons: extreme tired after waking up in morning, fevers, infections??
Thank you,
Maggie
A:lymph glands trap foreign bodies and cause lymph nodes to form nodules, mostly in the neck area.

100% Q: My doctor just prescribed methimazole for my thyroid. I have already had radiation to "kill" my thyroid. Why?
Why would my doctor prescribe a thyroid decreasing medicine when my thyroid is "dead"? I noticed when looking at the uses for this medicine that is is used for preparing people for thyroid removal surgery and radiation therapy. Since I already had radiation I dont understand the purpose for prescribing this.
A:After I-131 radioablative therapy for a thyroid pathology, if serologic levels indicate that their is some functional tissue, your physician may opt to place you on methimazole instead of subjecting you to more I-131 therapy.
