thyroid disorders
The thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. This gland is found in the neck inferior to (below) the thyroid cartilage (also known as the Adam's apple in men) and at approximately the same level as the cricoid cartilage. The thyroid controls how quickly the body burns energy, makes proteins, and how sensitive the body should be to other hormones.....

100% Q: Thyroid disorders?
Hi Does anyone out there have a Thyroid disorder and have problems with Depression and Anxiety also. What has worked for you?
A:Oh, boy! Do you have low thyroid (hypOthyroid), or overactive, (hypERthyroid). A veterenarian, of all people, explained to me that the hormones secreted by the thyroid gland have their fingers in all your bodily functions. I have hypothyroid and am on medication for it. Thyroxine is the generic name for it. It is a lifetime condition. I also on occasion suffer from depression and anxiety-in the form of panic attacks. I don't think you can attribute either to thyroid. Rather they are related to circumstances in my life. I have lexapro for depression and diazapam (valium) for anxiety. There is lots of info here if you do a search on thyroid, or hypothyroid, sometimes known as Hashimoto syndrome.

100% Q: Can thyroid disorders cause premature graying?
I have started getting gray hair. I am 27, so maybe I am not going "prematurely" gray, but I was just wondering if having a thyroid disorder could cause the gray. I have had problems in the past with hair loss due to my under-active thyroid and was wondering if perhaps the gray is another symptom. Any thoughts?
A:Possibly, but so does stress and alot of other things. I would not worry bout it to much. I also have thyriod probs, but colour my hair. im also a hairdresser and it could be from medication to stress to so many different things, buy i do know thyriod can cause you to loose hair. just watch your diet and what you put in your body. im seeing a homeopath and going that root is so much better and can really help ease alot of things your thyriod causes.

100% Q: Do you know a website for holistic medicine for thyroid disorders?
I need websites for special diet, herbal, or holistic medicines for a thyroid disorder.
A:Disclaimer: Since I am not a medical doctor, I cannot legally prescribe medical advice. However, free speech allows me to say what I believe to be best, and if you so choose to follow the information, it's best to check with your own health-care profession first (a naturopath, hopefully.)
Go to www.newstarget.com, and in the reference section, there is a list of a mulititude of health issues along with the healing foods, herbs, and supplements you can take to address the issue.
Also, keep in mind that when dealing with health problems, we must address 2 things: Toxins and nutrition. We have too many toxins today, and not nearly enough nutrition.
The above reference will give you the nutrition you need, but there are some things you really need to avoid, and they are chlorine and flouride. Chlorine, as most know, is a poisonous chemical. It causes a ton of thyroid problems. Filter your shower head, your drinking water, and avoid public pools!
The flouride is really bad, too, and it's mostly because the so-called "flouride" in today's water supplies is really just an industrial waste chemical known as flourosilic acid (see www.flouridealert.org). Flouride should never be drunk, and only natural flouride can be applied topically (although the latter is not really necessary)
It would also be good to do the cleanese. Get them at www.baselinenutritionals.com or www.renewlife.com or simply go to your health food store and inquire.
If you have anymore questions, just post them on this topic, and I'll answer if I get a chance.
Good luck!

100% Q: How do you overcome your thyroid disorders?
What kind of doctor do you have to see and what are best ways to treat it?
My wife has hypothyroid.
A:First of all, thyroid dysfunction is nothing to fool around with. She needs to see a specialist who deals with endocrinology problems, and this will be an Endocrinologist (either through a referral, or on her own). He/she can perform a panel of thyroid function tests that will determine the extent of the problem. It is important to follow the directions explicitly, because this is a sensitive endocrine problem, and the medication can and will bring the thyroid into proper function. Your nearby hospital should be able to help you with names of specialists in your area.
Best wishes for an easily resolved prognosis!
