100% Q: Need advice on cold calling sales from small business owners?

I have a business that we market legal service membership which also includes a membership to a website that is full of resources for small business. Right now I'm using a free directory listing to get me into the door of the small business. I have tried cold calling over the phone with a short script and setting an appointment to go in for the free directory listing. This leads me into talking to them about our legal service membership while I'm there getting their information for the free directory listing. I have also tried walking in cold and asking for the owner or maybe I already have their name and I try to set an appointment to come back in for their directory listing or if they are free I can do it right then. Again this all leads me into talking to them about my service. What my hang up is, I'm not sure if cold calling over the phone is better than just walking in off the streets. How should I introduce myself and explain why I'm here so I don't sound like the typical run of the mill sales people?? If you have a business, why do you choose to talk to some sales people versus others? Do you prefer someone just walking in cold or would you like for them to call you and set an appointment? Please give me your feedback and any advice you have.

A:I would definetly encourage you not to come off the streets and try and sell your services. Immediately they will be closed minded and be waiting for a chance to speak so they can tell you they are not interested. As for cold calling, the best thing you can do is state who you are, who you work for, and is this a convenient time to speak at the very beginning. I think reading a script is a horrible way to go about selling your services over the phone because it is easy to tell that you are doing so. Make it more personal. Do a little research on the company before you call so you can tell them exactly how you can help them. A great sales technique is to ask questions, this will engage the customer more (people love to talk about themselves). 100% Q: Is it legal for a small business owner to refuse to issue credit card receipts to its sales representatives?

The company i worked for is a home party based business. I am ending my affiliation with them and have a credit of $80. The owner refuses to pay me that $80 and insists I need to purchase more inventory with it. I already have $1500 worth of inventory that they will not buy back. Is this legal? What are my options?

A:Did you sign a contract ? What state is this in ? Did you keep all paperwork ( check stubs, receipts of payments) Call your credit card company and see if you can contest the charges. The laws concerning this probably varies by state. You can contact your state attorney generals office and explain this to them, and they can probably direct you to the proper agency's. I hope you kept all paperwork dealing with them ,everyone will want proof. Good luck.

Your best friend owns a small children's clothing store located in the downtown area of a community of 50,000 citizens. Business has been slow the past year due the construction of several new strip malls and a new Wal-Mart store (Increased competition). She asked you for your advice for ideas that would increase her sales (She owns her present building and will not relocate her business, even though the downtown area is losing stores to the new strip malls).

100% Q: I am a small business owner for 5 years. Could I do MBA course online although I don't have undergrad degree?

I have made my business grow from nothing to $1.4mil gross sales business. I am a street smart rather than text book guru but I would like to get MBA for future security.

A:Street smarts won't help when in your first semester you are asked the relevance of Chi squared in a statistical SPSS marketing research package and they don't tell you anything more because it is assumed you learned about Chi squared in your year of undergrad business statistics....and don't even get me going on the accounting questions that you will be assumed to be familiar with. Same with your core finance and computer science courses. I recommend dropping by a University with a College of Business and picking up a school bulletin...look up the course requirements for a Bachelors of Business and see all the courses required (128 semester hours is the usual)...that will give you a new insight into what a Masters program will assume you know and are familiar with.
