100% Q: What are the effects of single parent dating habits on their children?
I have a friend who is a single mom to three boys all under the age of 10. In the last 2 years she has dated 4 men who she fell in love with quickly and made them part of her children's lives. The boys bonded to each one and then suffered when the relationships ended. I was wondering if there are any good studies or books on the long-term effects of this pattern on the children.
A:Nothing good comes of that. Eventually the kids will refuse to get close to anyone. It really messes with their heads. I think eventually they will all start acting out their pain. You have to remember, every time one of those guys leaves her the children feel rejection. It's hard to build confindence when you feel like you are the reason no one will stay. Sadly, a lot of women are very selfish and put their own needs ahead of the childrens.

100% Q: As a single parent, dating another single parent, when is it appropriate to involve the kids?
I am 36 years old and a single mother of a 6 year old boy. I have been dating a man who is 35, and has two girls ... 3 and 5, for 7 months. We only see each other every other weekend when we do not have our children. We talk every day and have a great relationship. I feel we are at the point where we could introduce our children, but he is very apprehensive ... I don't want to push, but I feel like I am ready for more than 4 evenings a month!!!
A:I would wait a few more months, after a year and then bring it up again. He may have some apprehensions due to the children's mother, this may cause problems for him. Or he may just be very scared. However, after a year, I would think that he should be able to take this a step further or let you go. Good luck and God bless****

100% Q: Single parent dating?
I'm new to being a single mom dating. How do you handle it? I don't get much time to myself. I actually have a boyfriend but we both have kids and don't get to see each other much. My kids are both under 4 and his are 12 and 14... We rarely get to spend time as a couple. As a couple its great but as a family I feel awkward. I have two little kids that still require care and attention and his are older. I get so exhausted and he doesn't help out. I begin to dread his visits if I have the kids because it is so tiring. Is this how it is? Am I missing something? How do other single parents handle dating? His both children love our time together. I just am so exhuasted by the end of a visit it takes a day to get energy back. I feel a bit like he is putting up a front around me. He is great to my kids and me but I just can't put my finger on it, that there is something I should be careful of.

100% Q: Single parent AND dating - where and how is the best place?
Sincerely - what is the best way a single mom to go out and date again? Anyone out there have any success stories to share? Only sincere people respond please! Especially when you're shy!
A:I see this question asked fairly often and I've never answered them before because I didn't understand the problem. I think I'm beginning too though. It's not about where you meet people so much as it is your willingness to meet people. I think if you're an outgoing, active and people loving person then you can make connections with people via a wide variety of exposure points, from the local hot singles bar to the church. I've never understood why people have trouble asserting themselves in a search for a dating partner or soul mate by missing all the opportunities to "strike up a dialogue" with someone of interest in the simplest yet sometimes most variety filled places they often spend much of their time. I'd be curious to know how many people have ever spoken to someone in the grocery store line, while waiting your turn to check out, and not having some sort of dialogue exchange until it was your turn to check out? I'd be further curious to know how many of those people who did have these exchanges may have found that person to be of both the opposite sex and attractive to them? Now, I'd be really curious to know if all that was true how many of those people asserted themselves as if they had been in a singles bar specifically for the purpose of making some connection? A lot of people would say to all this that you just don't meet people in the grocery store but to that I would say "why not"? Is there some reason I'm supposed to think that all of those other people in the store are neither single and looking or go to singles bars too? Hmmm, something to think about maybe.

100% Q: Single Parent dating- what can I expect?
I'm a divorced single mother with 4 children aged 12-19 - Im 42, and I am finacially stable. I am dating a divorced p/t single father of 2, for 3 years. We live 3 blocks apart. My question is about expectations. My b/f says that I have too large of expectations of him- saying that I have been imposing selfish demands on him when I ask him to do small favours for me. An example would be asking him to assist me shoveling my snow, or raking my yard. ( he rents and doesn't have to do these at his place) He becomes "offended" at my requests for help, stating that hes my lover not my slave. He in turn, doesn't ask help rom me. I think I do not I ask much of him- and find it incredible that he doesn't see my burdens or needs and offer more assistance on his own. I find myself growing resentful, because after 3 years I would think he would be more "in" my life and simply want to assist me. He says he only wants to help me when he chooses to. Am I expecting too much?
A:I don't think those chores are something that he should be expected to do, but it would be a nice gesture. I have no doubt I would've asked my boyfriend for help with tasks. I don't think you're unreasonable in asking, as long as you know he has the right to decline. I think that when it comes to messes he contributed to (such as dirty dishes), he should most definitely help clean.
