side effects of zoloft

Tourette syndrome (also Tourette's syndrome or TS) is an inherited neurological disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of motor and phonic tics. Treatment of Tourette syndrome has the goal of managing symptoms to achieve optimum functioning, rather than eliminating symptoms; not all persons with Tourette's require treatment, and there is no cure or universally effective medication.[1][2][3] Explanation and reassurance alone are often sufficient treatment;[2] education is an important part of any treatment plan.[4]....

100% Q: How long does it take for the side-effects of Zoloft to wear off.?
I was on Zoloft for 2 months. I experienced a side-effect, the inability to ejaculate, so my doctor switched me to another anti-depressant. How long will it take for the side-effect to wear off?
A:Of all of the SSRI meds, Zoloft has one of the shortest discontinuation recovery periods. Shouldn't take more that two weeks. However, don't be surprised if the new meds have the same side effect of the Zoloft. You may have to try several different kinds of anti-depresant medication before you find the right one. Be patient. And, be sure that you are working with a competent psychiatrist that knows what s/he is doing. Often, general practitioners just keep throwing samples at you to see what will work or not work. I hope you don't have one of those. Depression is serious and requires that you work with a trained individual that specializes in it. It is also very helpful to have a good counseling psychologist working in tandem with your psychiatrist or doctor. Good luck.

100% Q: How long will side effects of Zoloft last?
I started taking Zoloft two weeks ago and the only noticeable side effect I'm experiencing is the inability to sleep. I get really tired but when I try to sleep I can't, regardless of how sleepy I am. Does anyone from experience have a time estimate as to how long the side effects last, and will they go away? I've tried other medications, and I really like this one, except for that one thing. Thanks in advance!
A:These side effects are completely normal and will go away in about 6-8 weeks. If it gets to bad you can A. Take it in the morning or B. Ask you Doctor to prescribe a benzo, like xanax or klonopin at a very low dose until the intial 6-8 week period is over and you've made it over the hump. Good luck!!!

100% Q: Can anyone help explain the permanent side effects of Zoloft (sertraline)?
I recently started taking Zoloft, and I went online today to find that my phyciatrist didn't tell me all of the side effects. The one I'm worried about the most is the lack of sexual desire, which I heard can continue even if I stopped taking them. Does anyone have any advice/information? Would it be wise to take something else for post traumatic stress disorder and depression that doesn't have those side effects?
A:Well, there is very little evidence that the side effects you mentioned will not go away if you stop the medication. In fact, for most people, this is temporary. The other PTSD medications all have similar side effects. My advice is continue to take the Zoloft and re-evaluate your PTSD in a couple of months. If you have not had significant improvement, switch to something else like Lexapro.
