The Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) is one of the Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence, a group of five-week summer programs for gifted high school students in the state of Pennsylvania. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh has hosted the program since its inception in 1982. Currently, it is directed by Dr. Barry Luokkala. Participants are required to be Pennsylvania high school students between their junior and senior years and are required to live in the dormitories for the full five weeks of the program. Admission into the program is very competitive - approximately 500 students compete for the 100 spaces in the program (this number was recently raised from 90). The aim of PGSS is to promote interest in science rather than to advance students' knowledge in a specific area. The curriculum includes five "core" courses in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics, and numerous electives. In addition to taking classes, students are required to participate in a lab course and a research-style team project. The emphasis is on cooperation, rather than competition - students are encouraged to both collaborate with other students on academic work and to interact socially.....

100% Q: Will anyone help me with science homework?
I have two questions on my science homework and I was wondering if anyone could help me with them! Here they are: -What is the relationship between chloroplasts and mitochondria? -Why do plants perform both cell respiration and photosynthesis? Also does anyone know how to describe ATP's?
A:OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE THE SAME SCIENCE HOMEWORK AS YOU(well it seems like it)!!!! is it a take home test????? AND ITS ON THE SME WEEKEND!!! mine is..okay so for my worksheet, its #15, its "What is an ATP?" i put: atp is a product that forms from photosynthesis and respiration. It gives off energy. and for the relationship btween chloroplast and mito is #21. i put this : cellular respiration occurs in both of them. The glucose molecules are broken down in the cytoplasm, but no oxygen is used, In the mitochondria, the small molecules are broken down even smaller. The chemical reaction needs oxygen and alot of energy is released. Both are a stage of respiration, and break down glucose molecules... (that one my teacher gave us liek alot of space to write liek a paragraph or two) 22) Why do plants perform both cellular respiration and photosynthesis? i ddnt get that answer, and thats why i typed it in to look for it...then i found this question...so lemme try to find the asnwer... --plants need to perform those because in respiration, they need to produce energy for cell growth, ahich makes proteins to build more orgalelles. in photosynthesis, the plant needs to converse light energy into chemical energy from living organisms.

100% Q: Can anybody help me with my Science homework ?
One question on my science homework asks why can a plant not function when a clear plastic bag is tied around it's leaves.I know this is probally really obvious and sorry in advance for being so dumb ! Thanks so much in advance ! P.s, I think it has something to do with photosynthesis !
A:The answer is that a plant needs to have a supply of carbon dioxide to continue photosynthesis. If an air tight bag were placed around the plant, there would be no further photosynthesis after all of the carbon dioxide was used.
