100% Q: The recycling problems of Tetrapaks in Schools?
I am currently working on a recycling project with my local school and i have a bit of a recycling problem. The focus of the project is to improve the local primary school's "eco-friendly"-ness however I've hit a roadblock when it comes to tetra pack milk cartons. While Tetrapacks are recyclable, children often cant/wont finish milk meaning the packs cant be recycled without considerable time/effort. Is there a solution to my tertapack woes?
A:I am not quite sure what type of solution you are looking for. The milk that is left in the carton has to be poured out so the carton can be recycled. You will have to do this manually. You could set up trays that children could place their unfinished cartons on and that would allow you to easily empty the milk into a bucket. Those that do finish can just toss their cartons into the recycling bin. You will have to have someone there to supervise the kids so you don't end up with half empty cartons in the recycling bin. Your school should have a garden and in this garden there should be a composting area. Next to the composting area you can dig a hole and pour the milk in, just cover the milk saturated ground with a few inches of compost. You will need to change spots after you fill the spot up with compost and after allowing each spot to sit for a few months it should be ok to reuse it again. You will be adding lots of nutrients to the soil and to the finished compost. You can also do this with any unfinished juice. Make sure you cover the areas with a few inches of cover so you don't draw any unwanted animals or smells. Good luck

100% Q: I need to collect 60 x 5litre containers with lids for a recycling project, can anyone help?
It is for a project in the Glasgow area making eco-stools with children in 3 weeks time. I am looking for ideas on where to get a stack of these from trade, and I can collect. All suggestions appreciated.
A:Try chefs/catering managers of hotels, restaurants etc because a lot of the stuff they use comes in that size of cans. I've got 4 or 5 that held Ecover washing up liquid; if you're ever going to Dumfries you could email me thru Y!A with your phone no. and I'd ring you and tell you where I am. (between Glasgow & Dumfries) Good luck with the project!

100% Q: Does anyone have any idea on how to decorate the spikes of a security fence in a school?
I'm doing a child orientated improvement project to make a school playground more green and child friendly. we already have put in the planters, with climbers, etc, and we will be getting the kids to make murals on boards and fix this to the fence. The only thing is we have the institutional spikes at the top, which scare small children, and we want to make big spheres or sconces, or other fun sculpture to fix temporarily on the top. The budget is next to nothing, so we will be tarting up recycled materials - please help with your ideas. Thanks :o) Whatever we do, it will be decoration only, and we won't be breaching any health + safety regs. It is a fairly rural school where vandalism is minimal, and the fence the headteacher thought they were getting was a small wooden one - but they were issued with council standard... Also, we can't paint it as it's galvanised steel, but I like the idea of flowers- could make them from cds and tie them on- still needing more ideas though - I do loads of these kind of projects. Cheers ;o)
A:There is a problem here. The spikes are designed to deter unauthorised people from climbing over the fence. If you disguise the fence spike, then if anyone climbed the fence and injured themselves on the hidden spikes, they may have recourse to legal action against you. These spikes look dangerous because they are. I'd leave them alone. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for.

100% Q: What are you doing to make the world a better place?
"As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world - that is the myth of the atomic age - as in being able to remake ourselves." ~~Mohandas Gandhi What are you doing to remake yourself into a better person. Did you realize that if each one of us made one positive change tomorrow, we could radically transform the world -- donate to charity, volunteer in a children's cancer ward, make a compost pile, recycle newspapers, find a new use for plastic items for art projects or around the house, be kind to others, stop putting harsh chemicals into our municipal and residential sewer systems. It doesn't take much effort or cost much money to make our world a better place to live, work and play. Tell me: what are you doing to improve the quality of life in the world?
A:More and more each day. I've installed a Pelonis hot water on tap in the bathroom...Europe's had this forever, I've switched all my lightbulbs to the 10 year kind. My outside watering bill is down to $9.00 a month. I get paper bags at the grocery store, cut them up, decorate them and use for wrapping paper around the holidays. I wait 6 weeks between laundry and then use the local public one instead of throwing something in my wash every day. And a lot of other things. I am involved in animal rights, Make A Wish, Doctors Without Borders and send money to the African disasters. I try and find homes for stray animals and only use my car a couple of times a week. My gas for the month is usually around $25.00. This is such a little drop in the big pond, but as soon as I retire I plan to be a lot more involved in giving back to a life that's given me so much.

100% Q: I have this project for geography, what toy would a rag-picker child create?
I have to write how I would survive if I were a rag-picker and create a toy. I finished the writing bit but now I need to make a toy. Can you guys give me some idea's? Rag-pickers are (usually) children who find materials that can be recycled, reused or sold. Basically their street children sometimes without parents. Thanks and pls giv easy ideas!
A:maybe a rag doll....an old board and old fruit, for a game of street hockey, dried fruit can also be used for face of doll, you can find information on the net about the depression and follow a link to entertainment...good luck
