100% Q: ball python facts?
I just got a ball python yesterday and i have a few questions. is there a way to tell if your snake is happy or mad. how much should you play with your snake a day (except feeding days).my snake is about a foot and a half long about how old is that.Is there a way to tell if its a boy or girl. I know these are a lot of questions but please answer as much as possible...also if you think that i should know something important about taking care of my snake please tell me.
A:Congratulations on getting your new friend There is some good advice here. I too own a red-tailed boa so I don't know specifics of the ball python but here are some general guide lines for snakes. Why you shouldn't handle a snake after it's eaten - it may regurgitate it's food which is extremely stressful for your snake. Also you can damage it's insides if the food has not digested properly. So wait at least 2 days before handling. Sexing - I see some people say you can tell what it is by the length of the tale, this is not always a full proof way. Best things to do is to take it to an exotic vet or a good pet shop and let them probe the snake. This should only be done by experienced person as you could damage the snake if you don't know. Handling during shedding: The snake has poor eye sight as it is now add the cloudiness over it's eyes it will become nervous and stike. This also means don't feed the snake while in the shedding process as it will stress the snake out. Otherwise you can handle your snake everyday as i do and sometimes i have her out for hours. But it's always best to find some books on these wonderful creatures as knowledge will go a long way.

100% Q: what are good features of a ball python?
I am looking forward to buying a ball python as my first pet snake but i am finding it difficult to convince my mom in letting me get one. (she just does not like snakes) I have had many pets before and am a responsible 17 year old. Can anyone please give me a list on why my mother should let me buy this snake (I allready researched how to take care of it) all i need is a list of good facts about this snake. Your answers are greatly appreciated. Thank You
A:Hello; I am a Ball python owner; so hopefully I will be able to help on this one :) 1. A lot of snakes are actually very docile and make great pets, if you handle them regularly from the time they are babies. 2. Most snakes are very low maintenance if you have their heat and humidity levels right. 3. They only need to be fed once per week 4. They only go to the bathroom around once every one-two weeks to two months, depending on the age and species. 5. You can take them out and hold them while you are watching TV but they won't suffer at all if you don't take them out a certain day. 6. They are very easy to clean up after. 7. If you leave on vacation for a week, you don't generally need to bother with a pet sitter. Just leave them some water and they are fine by themselves. 8. They shed in one clean piece rather than all over your furniture. 9. They are quirky with individual personalities; each one has different likes, dislikes, habits and behaviors that vary not just from species to species, but to snake to snake. 10. They don't smell. 11. They aren't destructive as some cats, dogs, and rodents tend to be. 12. They are hypo-allergenic. 13. They don't make much (if any) noise. 14. They can have very long life spans, with some species exceeding 30-40 years. (Ball pythons average 20-40) 15. Most aren't too terribly expensive to keep once the initial cost of the terrarium and supplies is out of the way. 16. They stay a very manageable size, with females averaging 3-5 feet in length, with males being on the smaller end of that scale. My twelve year old male is only three feet long. 17. Unlike some much larger snakes; Ball pythons pose absolutely no threat to anything bigger than a rat, and couldn't hurt a person if they tried. And given their docile and reluctant to bite nature, them even trying is rather unlikely, as well. Hmm… that is all I can think of at the moment. ;) I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :) Good luck!

100% Q: i am getting my first snake it is a ball python ive always been intrested in reptiles in fact i plan on going?
to school for it buy anyway is it hard to breed them and if i do what are the chances that they will have a reccesive gene axanthic or albino
A:You need to do lots of research before buying or breeding snakes. Breeding them takes lots of time and effort (not to mention space and money). You'll probably need a whole room devoted to these snakes to breed them. Pythons lay eggs, usually only 4-6 at a time so you won't get many babies. Also, normal-looking ball pythons don't sell for that much, I would at least get pastels. If this is your first snake though, don't even THINK about breeding yet. I've had three snakes and I'm not even close to being ready to breed them. Just focus on having one pet for now, and do that, only keep one in a cage. If you don't believe me about that, ask this guy - http://www.rcreptiles.com/forum/about1343.html

100% Q: I'm building a snake rack and don't know whether to use 3" flextape or Zoo Med's heat cable. Any suggestions?
The snake rack will house ball pythons. I'll, in fact, have snake racks that house various tub sizes. Also, is fextape safe when in direct contact with wood? Thank you.
A:Save yourself a lot of trouble and get the flex watt heat tape. Just make sure you hook it up to a rheostat to keep the temps under control. The heat cable burns out. I was using heat cable on hatchlings and they all stopped feeding. Found out the cable had stopped working. I did some research and have found many people have had the same problem.
