100% Q: what is the difference between a copperhead snake and a Burmese python snake?
i have a snake but i dont know if it is a Copperhead or a Burmese python
A:There are LOTS of differences - and neither make good pets for beginners! Copperheads are venomous snakes displaying markings that, from the side, look like Hershey's kisses (in color and shape). The dark brown (chocolate colored) markings are on a colored base of beige/tan (light flesh color). Burmese pythons are nonvenomous and come in a variety of colors due to selective breeding in the pet trade. A "natural" Burmese python also has dark markings, but the markings are randomly-shaped blotches along the sides and back of the snake. The markings are often edged in a greenish yellow line of scales. The base color of a "natural" burmese python is much lighter brown than the markings, but not as beige-looking as the base color of a copperhead. Do an image search on the web for more details - the 2 snakes look nothing alike.
Really, if you don't know the difference here, you shouldn't be dealing with either snake. Sorry, but your not knowing tells me you don't have a lot of experience and/or knowledge about snakes. Both the copperhead and the Burmese python can cause serious injury, and the Burmese, once it attains some size, can kill you.

100% Q: What all i will need to bring my ball python/corn snake home?
I am getting either a ball python or a corn snake sunday. What all things do i need for his cage? Please be specific in lighting.... Do i need to have an under tank heating pad? I have heard that they are useless in larger tanks (im getting him/her a 40 gallon tank)
Once again... what kind of lighting does he need? I was planning on getting 3 lights, 2 days on the left and right, and the middle would be a black or red night bulb... sound good?
A:you should have an under tank heater and a light becaus you want the tank to be heated and the pad should only cover part of the bottom so the snake has a part of the tank to cool down other than that that sounds like a pretty good set up. You will want a water dish big enough for the snake to submerge itself in and possibly a hide box of some sort. you can buy a substrate of some sort the store should be able to help you with that but newspaper also works great and makes for easy cleanup. also i would ask them the last time the snake was fed and or ask for a feeding demonstration to make sure the snake doesn't have problems eating. Good Luck!

100% Q: How to handle a diamond python snake?
My boyfriend has a diamond python and he has not handled it yet. It came from a neglected past, and was quite agressive when first homed here a few months ago.
It seems to have quietened down recently however and he wants to start handling it.
What is the best way to do this? Where do you hold it and any other information would be appreciated.
Its his first pet reptile so we're not quite sure!
Thanks :)
A:I wouldn't have recommended a diamond as a first snake. They tend to be aggressive anyway, and they are a rather large python. Not huge, but large, and they can deliver a painful bite. My suggestion would be to wear smooth leather gloves such as work gloves. Stay away from suede (rough leather) as the teeth will catch and possibly get broken if it should bite. With gloves you can at least keep the snake away from your face if necessary. Short periods of handling might help calm the snake, but don't be surprised if it never gets to be very friendly.
When handling, I'd just reach in, and gently take the snake by mid body and upper body. Don't grab, just hold. Then bring it out. Do not squeeze the head or neck, this will cause a defensive pull back. Try not to be tentative with holding. Go in, pick it up and hold it. Don't put your hand in there, pull it back if it seems to be acting aggressively or things like that. The quick, tentative movements tend to create a strike mode. Good luck with your new pet!

100% Q: How small of a space can a 3-5 foot boa/python snake squeeze through?
My stepson has us snake sitting and I'm a bit nervous would greatly appreciate knowing how small of a space this 3-4 foot snake can escape out of?
A:The doctors is in, and he thinks he can help!
My son wanted a snake, and so I bought him a boa. I would say, eh, close to the size you currently own. Anyhow, my son let him out of the cage, low and behold he crawled under the door. Mind you, it was closed! That small of a space! They are extremely and I do mean extremely hard to keep in anything that has any space where they might crawl out.
We ended up having to call animal control. It was a nightmare. After a long talk with my son we as a family decided snakes just wasnt for us. We have big lake by our house so we went out on the boat and let him free in the middle of it. I haven't seen him as of yet, but im sure hes out there living somewhere.
Glad I could help!

100% Q: Are their any snakes larger than a corn or ball python snake but smaller or same as boa constrictor?
I would also like it to friendly and active.
A:Hello; have you considered an Irian Jaya Carpet Python or a Woma Python? Both species match your requirements quite well, are generally very docile, are interesting looking, relatively low maintenance, and are in the size range you are looking for.
Here are care/information sheets on both species; in case you are interested. :)

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)
Good luck!
EDIT:
Oh! if you'd like the over-all look and disposition of a Boa Constrictor but with a smaller size, and easier to accommodate care and maintenance needs; I would highly recommend a Hog Island boa. They are the smallest (averages four to six feet, though it isn't common for them to exceed five) and in my opinion the prettiest member of the Boa Constrictor family, and they have all of the great aspects of the Colombian Boa Constrictors and very few of the bad. :)
Here is a care sheet on them; if you are interested.
