You do not need a psssport to travel to and from Mexico by LAND or SEA yet...the date had not yet been set, but will be after next summer. My wife has a green card, a California I.D. and a passport from the Philippines. Can she / or does she need a U.S. passport to travel to Mexico? Can she get a U.S. Passport? What are the requirements in this situation?

A:If she flies to and from Mexico she must use her Philippine passport, if she travels by land r sea, no passport needed until June 2009. As other answerer said, only American citizens may have an American passport. See site below and read paragraph on "International Travel."

Current status : Permanent Resident of USA although carry Indian passport. Issue : My passport has expired and is in a process of Renewal. Question : Can I still be able to go on a cruise with a valid Green card. Is passport mandatory in this case? The rule mentions that for Permanent Resident , it is not required. However, I need to confirm this. Also would this cause any issue when I am in Mexico? Has anyone been in this situation before.

A:Passports are NOT yet needed to trvel by SEA to Mexico...date has NOT yet beeb sert for ths even tho some travel agencies say differently. Yhey are WRONG. See site below and read top half of page for correct, current info. U.S. permanent residents are subject to exactly the same rules as AMerican citizens when they visit Mexico...so you will have NO problem in Mexico. Some cruise lines want passengers to have passports...so you need to call your cruise line and ask what their policy is.

Hi, Does anyone know the CORRECT new law for what is needed to enter Mexico by air??? Is anybody planning a trip there soon and knows the answer? I have heard that a passport is needed for everybody who tries to enter Mexico as of Jan 23, 2007. Is that true? Because according to some web sites, like travel.state.gov here what is says: Passport, OR proof of citizenship (such as original birth certificate or naturalization certificate) and photo ID. I know about the new passport requirement when entering or re-entering US, but what about Mexico? Please help!

A:Very simple - you need a passport. It's not just re-entering the US. You can't leave the US by air without one.

I need to know if anyone who is a Lawful Perminent Resident, travel to Mexico, Caribbeans, or anywhere where the new passport requirement is in affect, with ONLY their Green Card instead of a Passport? Please only answer if you are a Green Card Holder, or you know someone who is, that has traveled after January 23rd.

A:As of January this year, citizens of the USA and Canada will need to have a passport if they travel by air between two countries. If travel by land, citizenship card or any other ID that will establish their citizenship will do. To answer your question, I guess you will need to have a passport.
