A:Diesel has been converted to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). The sulfur content in diesel has been reduced from 500ppm to 15ppm (as of June 1). Volkswagen, which sells the most diesel passenger cars in the U.S., will stop selling its diesels until 2008 when they expect to have an engine which meets the new criteria. A:The main reason for these warnings is that governments have requested refineries lower the amount of sulphur in the fuel as part of Kyoto protocol, unfortunately the sulphur was a good lubricant for the injectors and pumps meaning the refineries have had to add a lubricity additive.
