100% Q: has anyone here ever had negative side effects taking zoloft's generic version called sertraline?
i know generic version of the zoloft is much cheaper, but to me it seems like it is cheap for a reason. i've had negative side effects taking its generic version called sertraline. these are some of the negative side effects: more OCD, ear problems (ringing/buzzing/not sure if it's the ear but it could be any where near my head), muscle aches, etc. Another thing is when I miss a day or two of taking my medication, I seem to not feel well when I'm on the Sertraline. But when I was taking the Zoloft a year or two ago, when I miss it for a day or two I feel not as bad. There has to be a chemical difference between the two, and I am not too happy why the two are being marketed as the same medicine, but different names (one generic, the other "brand name"). Any other medical/or non-medical alternatives I can take?
A:I don't think the generic is best for you. I think you should ask your doctor to write "daw" (dispense as written) on your prescriptions so that you get the brand name zoloft. I notice that I have increased OCD behavior on the generic too.

100% Q: What are the negative side effects of zoloft?
A:There are some minor side effects as you get used to Zoloft. Occasional headaches and minor dizziness and dry mouth. But I found the side effects all went away after about three weeks. I took it for four years with no problem and it really helped my depression and anxiety.

100% Q: Zoloft Question... Sexual Side-Effects?!?
I have been on 150 mg. of Zoloft for years now, and I take it at night before bed. It has had negative effects sexually for me. Since Zoloft (mostly) works for me, what can I do to have more interest in sex while on zoloft? Should I take it at a different time? Or consult my physician? Thank you so much.
A:Any antidepressants have a negative side effect on our ability to enjoy sex. I would ask my doctor or if you want, quit the drug, enjoy sex but feel real depressed afterwards. No sex and feel depressed, or sex and still feel depressed - real depressing world we live in.....

100% Q: I am a 27 year old male and my doc wants to put me on Zoloft. Any advise ?
I have suffered with anxiety and mild panic attacks since my early 20's. For awhile I was on 4 mg of Xanax a day for over a year. The Xanax worked well, but the doc says I have been on Xanax for too long and he feels Zoloft would be more effective for me. I am just so concerned with all the negative side effects I hear about Zoloft and also feel I am to young to start Zoloft. Any advise would realy help me! Thank you all!
A:Zoloft, or its generic counterpart sertraline, is generally well tolerated by most people. It is in a class of pharmaceuticals called SSRI's (like Paxil, etc) and is used for depression, anxiety, and some mood disorders. The side effects are often mild in adults, though alcohol use is not recommended. However, if you at any time notice any negative change in thought or anxiety be sure to let your physician know as not every medication is right for everyone. For a more detailed list of side effects I would check out webmd.com. As far as your nervousness about taking Zoloft, you should know that there are A LOT of people who use anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds at some point in their lives -- its just that not many people talk about it. There are a lot of people who's lives have been improved by it, though I would certainly suggest if you have concerns to discuss it with your doctor and s/he can answer your questions specifically to your background and needs. Hope that helps!
