The international border between Mexico and the United States runs from San Diego, California, and Tijuana, Baja California, in the west to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and Brownsville, Texas, in the east. 100% Q: Is it true that to go across the border from CA to Mexico and back to CA you need a passport?
Im moving to Dulzura, CA and its about 4 miles from Tecate,Mexico border and I want to be able to go across the border to do some shopping or whatever a lot of things are cheaper there. I heard somewhere that a new law was passed where you have to have a passport now to get across the border. I just wanted to make sure because all I have now is my ID card.
A:No its a lie all you need is your CA ID or license or birth certificate.

A:yes you can use your birth certificate, drivers license, social security card. school id possibly.
I've been to Mexico a few times and they let me come back to the states with proof of drivers license since i didn't have a passport at the time. but i brought the other items just in case.
I'm Mexican by the way but i have light skin so i thought for sure I'd get stuck and speaking English and Spanish very fluent hahaha but no. all went well :)

*be careful about the taxi drivers. right when you cross the boarder they will hound you. some taxi drivers are crooked. some on purpose drive you to your location but pretend to get lost to make more money. DO NOT get into a cab if it doesn't look real or if it looks really ghetto and no company info on the doors. makes sure its nice from the outside and looks like a cab. Trust me on this.

a few friends and i want to drive from san antonio texas to cancun in mexico for spring break and we are wondering if we need passports or if valid texas drivers licenses or school IDs will be good enough to get into mexico and more importantly back into the USA when we are done. anyone know? no guesses please
A:WOW that is a long drive.. well you don't need a passport yet.. if you are driving ... you just need an ID.. prefferably your drivers licence and a copy of your birth certificate to come back to the US.. to get into mexico you don't need any special document... they may ask u just for your ID but that's it.. OH!!! and also you need to get a permit for your car to get it to Mexico..

I know we had to have a passport to fly in last year. Now we are thinking of driving over to San Felipe for vaca this summer, some of our friends do not have passports. Is a certified birth certificate sufficient?
A:To drive to and from Mexico you need a photo I.d. and proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate. See site below.
