100% Q: what is the best way to look for medical office jobs?
A:Using Google make a list of all medical offices in your area. Search within a comfortable commute radius. Call each location and ask for the hiring/office manager.
When the hiring manager gets on the phone offer a standard greeting. Then do not let them say anything else, and state without interruption:
(Your own spin)
I’ve lived in _____ for ____ years. I have driven by your office several times and heard a lot of _______(good things) about your organization. I have been in ______(field) for ___(years). I really enjoy ________(doing/your experience). I am really interested in a _____ (job title). You are within a reasonable commute from my home in ____(city). Having a job of this nature in my own back yard would be really exciting. Do you have any current or anticipated job openings?
No
Do you mind if I call you back in a few weeks? When do you normally do your hiring?
Managers frequently speak with other managers… Ask for referrals they are golden. “I know this is a long shot but do you know anyone else who is hiring? I really want to stay in this field(possibly insert a reason) within a reasonable commute).
When you call the referral let them know where you got their number. Say, “Bob at ____ said I should call then go into your pitchâ€
This takes 30 seconds. It shows desire, passion, initiative, creativity and demonstrates you are willing to put effort into your job search, and pin point organizations rather than blindly throw resumes at the board.
Use your time on the phone with them wisely; be a detective take notes. Expect to make 100 of these calls. Expect to get 1-10% referrals pending on how savvy you are. When you apply in a few weeks, months or interview use this information!
I apologize I am at work, and am unable to detail this or present it with more clarity. However, this is the general idea.
•When someone is getting fired/replaced you find about openings of that nature(Companies often do not place these to the public)
•You find about internal openings
•You find out about potential openings
•You find out about openings companies farm out to 3rd parties
•You might create an opening
………. on and on goes the list – understand?

100% Q: Is the healthcare jobs of office manager, medical encoder, etc. growing?
I've heard that these are some of the fastest careers in growth. Before I invest time and money into schooling, does anyone who's did billing and encoding, medical office assistance, or medical transcriptionist tell me how to get experience and also if they feel their job is worth the effort for the pay.
A:I'm a nurse. I've heard that medical encoding is booming! You can probably learn that skill in a course or two in a community college or vocational school.

100% Q: Is it difficult to get a job as a Medical Office Specialist?
I live in Michigan and I am very interested in going to school to become a Medical Office Specialist. But I don't want to waste my time or money going into a field that I am going to have a difficult time finding a job in once I am finished. I've been comtemplating on going to school to become a Medical Assistant instead because at least that is a common field and is probably not as difficult to get a job in once finished with the program although my heart is really into becoming a Medical Office Specialist , i don't want to go into that field if I am going to have a difficult time finding employment once I am finished. Can someone please offer me some advice on what I should do?
A:I can understand your trepidation in going into a field not fully certain that there are jobs available. Several months ago, I had looked into a program for medical office specialist which is basically a medical office assistant program where one tends to learn medical billing, receptionist duties including answering phones, scheduling and canceling appointments, some coding training, medical office procedures which includes learning transcription and perhaps anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
The medical assistant program, however, would most likely also teach hands-on clinical skills (as well as administrative procedures) such as EKG (electrocardiogram and it's abbreviated ekg as it's easier to say :), phlebotomy (drawing blood) and urinalysis procedures. If your heart is really in the medical office aspect, you may be miserable in a clinical medical assistant program and want to drop out or such. The medical assistant program will most likely allow the person to be more marketable on the up side.
I'm not sure that there are many jobs in either field. My cousin has been working as a medical biller for a billing company for three years now and has been wanting to get another job for several months with no avail as the job market for medical billers isn't abundant at all despite what the schools will tell you :) Please note that there are online 'career' schools that may not be accredited or looked at as reputable according to employers such as stratford career institute and penn foster. Online colleges in the same category are University of Phoenix, Strayer University, Kaplan U, Devry U.
