medical assisting office administration
Medical assistants can be licensed or unlicensed[1] health care workers who perform the administrative and clinical tasks that keep the offices of health practitioners running smoothly. They should not be confused with physician assistants. The term "Medical Assistant" may have legal status in some nations, whereas elsewhere they may be a loosely defined group.....

A:There are not supposed to be too many jobs for the medical assistant (or medical coder or biller) despite what private $$ schools claim :) If interested in any of those fields, please go with the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) provided that they are accredited within the industry as they are usually more affordable.
General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search pharmacy technicians, radiologic technologists, massage therapists (very physical job, just fyi :) or such.
Please also steer clear of online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, stratford career, university of phoenix, strayer: http://www.uopsucks.com

100% Q: I'm a single mother and need some career training...?
I'm a single mother who wants to have a job that can be done during school hours. Which of these would you suggest doing and why? I would be attending a community college for the first 4 and a for-profit school for the last. I am already a CNA. Some people have suggest nursing or medical assisting. Those are good careers, however there are no RN/LPN/MA training programs available to me.
Medical Office Billing and Coding certificate
Hospital Billing and Coding certificate
Medical Records certificate
Medical Office Administration certificate
Phlebotomy
A:phlebotomy.
That way you wont be stuck in an office all day and if you ever decide to go back to school and be a RN you will have some more practical experience under your belt.
Good Luck!

I would like to get my masters ASAP (online). I am not computer sassy but interested. I would like to work in the medical field, hospital or medical office. I like working with the public, assisting, taking some decisions. Have taught Anatomy and Physiology with medical terminology in H.S. Like to teach adults. What type of master's degree would align with my skills?
A:Perhaps talking with a student advisor at the college that one would like to attend can help. I would just caution one about enrolling in an online, for-profit school such as penn foster, university of phoenix, strayer, kaplan and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit': http://www.uopsucks.com

100% Q: Health Care Management Career Paths after College?
After talking with a personal Career Advisor and currently studying Medical Assisting in College, I was informed that there are many young persons becoming Nurses, but not enough persons becoming degreed in Health Care Management. I have approximately 20 years in Supervisory and Management in Administration of Offices. Now I am changing my career path to Health Care. With my current skills and experience it should be a good path for me. Any thoughts to how I should follow a career in Assisted Living in this capacity? Best answers only please.
A:After college, my first "real" careers was as an adminstrator w/ a company that got contracts in nursing homes.
The pay was okay but they offered wonderful flex time. I was able to set my own schedule! Assisted living facilities can become very depresssing though so be forewarned! You might want to also consider like rehab (physical therapy not drug & alcohol facilities, larger private doctor practices, or hospitals). That would give you mixed clients and avoid being surrounded by sometimes forgotten elderly individuals. Also, keep in mind that, if working in a nursing type facility, you'll have other supervisors to deal with and that can be frustrating (maintenance, housekeeping & laundry, dietary & kitchen, etc).
