100% Q: Are there any doctors/pharmacists out there who can explain lisinopril dosages to me?

My doc put me on lisinopril approx 2 weeks ago. The 1st week, She put me on Lisinopril hctz 20/25 mg, which made me tired, weak and nauseous. She changed it to Lisinopril 20 mg and the symptoms went away, but my hands and feet started swelling. I called again and told her about my edema. She put me back on the original prescription. Does this make sense or was there smaller dosage of hctz that she could have prescribed for the lisinopril?

A:Peripheral edema can be a side effect of the lisinopril. If she is giving you HCTZ to help with your BP, that's OK. You can take as little as 12.5mg. On the other hand, she shouldn't be using the HCTZ to treat side effects from lisinopril. You should be tried on a different med. In short, ask her for another BP med to replace the lisinopril, one that won't cause swelling of the hands/feet. It's called "angioedema".

I just started BP meds (Lisinopril), but the 1st prescription she gave me (Lisinopril hctz 20/25) was too high. She reduced it to Lisinopril 20 and the adverse affects went away, but now my hands and fingers are swollen. Could this be because she removed the HCTZ from my meds?

A:My mom took Norvasc(sp?) for HBP, and her ankles swelled so much that she felt like they were going to crack open and bleed after sitting at her job all day. Now the doctor switched her medicine and they are much better. You probably just haven't found the right medicine or dosage amount for you. If it's making you swell, I would ask to try something different.

01/04/08 b/f age 41 taking lisinopril/hctz 20/25 feel great, side effects nausea & curved appetite. taking now 3 wks i have lost 6pds frm 198 dwn to 192 yeah! along with walking 2/3 times aweek. read in the forum another side effect about unusual dreams - not sure? i am a night dreamer and night talker naturally Haha! kept having crazy dreams all night last night cant remember but awaken very tired and cranky as though i had been wrestiling is this a true side effect? can't find any substantual facts about this medicaton over the net. (small peach pill) generic brand lisino/hctz 20/25 overall no complaints yet. i just can't find enough info over the net about this medication any additional wld be helpful.

A:If you have questions regarding your medication the first place you should go to should be your doctor. Feel free to give them a quick phone call to express your concerns and ask if your side effects are normal. A:she may want to try you on a different water pill. maybe hydrochlorathyazide, yes you could be retaining because you dont have a diauretic to go with the lisinopril. i have been on lasiks, and now they have me on spironalactone which also keeps the potassium in my body from the other water pills releasing too much so talk to your doctor cause that swelling is from retention and not getting released the blood pressure pill already needs to be accompanied by a diuretic
