100% Q: Joint PAIN???!!!?
Ok, this is actually about my mom. She has been experiencing joint pain in her lower arms, and hands for a couple of month. Starting with muscle pain in the area, and now in her feet and toes, arms and hands with severe pain and some swelling. She went to the ER couple days ago, she was diagnosed with Arthralgia and referred to a Rheumatologist. Her appointment it's in 2 weeks, but the pain gets worst sometimes. She says on a scale 1 to 10 its like an 8. She read somewhere that some medications that she takes may be related to the pains, Lipitor and Premarim. So I will like to know if anybody knows anything about that. Im just really worried and concerned about what it could be. So any information will be appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!..=)

100% Q: Why don't doctors warn you about serious side effects from Lipitor and Zocor?
I have taken Lipitor off and on for a few years. I began hearing about side effects such muscle weakness, joint pain and liver damage and I had been experiencing side effects myself, so I did some research and found some frightening reports. I stopped taking it 10 days ago and still have symptoms. Is there permanent damage?www.medications.com/go/se/Lipitor
A:Patients always should take an active role in the course of their own treatments. Towards this purpose, nowadays when you receive a prescription from the pharmacy, it comes with a printed paper that outlines all of the known potential side effects, and telling you to watch for them and report immediately to your doctor if you are experiencing any of them to a significant extent. Every time I get a particular prescription from my doctor, I take the time to say "OK, let's talk about any possible side effects, and how you feel they rate in terms of risk over benefits?" Matter of fact I recently had a discussion with my specialist about a minor heart abnormality, (a mild arrhythmia) for which he suggested giving me a particular drug. Upon further questioning he told me that, indeed this particular drug did have some disturbing side effects which, while not often experienced by the patient, had been known to occur and cause some trouble. We delved into it more, and in the end I told him that, with respect, I felt I needed to make the informed decision not to take this drug. He said "OK" and offered me an alternative, which I am taking and tolerating well. Always consider YOURSELF - the patient - an essential part of the medical team that is treating you, and as a member of the team, you need to do your own homework and have your say in every step of the process. Actually, information about Statins and some certain troubling side effects has been all over the news for two or three years now, and I am surprised that you have not come across it before. Lower doses tend not to be the problem for the majority of people, but on the other side of the coin, there is absolutely NO drug ever devised and put on the market that hasn't had an adverse effect on at least a few people. Look at the incredible and wide-ranging benefits of the humble aspirin. The overwhelming majority of people can take aspirin with absolutely no ill effects, and great benefit. But there are a selective few who develop quite serious problems with internal bleeding, stomach ulcers etc. It is why we all have to be aware, and diligent, whenever we are on any kind of medication, and listen to our body signals that will warn us when something is amiss. Hopefully, as usually happens, the discontinuation of the statin will eventually restore you to normal with no lasting ill effects. It depends how long you were taking it, as it may take your body a while to totally rid itself of the problems that it caused. Meanwhile, remain watchful, and stay in touch with your medical caregiver.

100% Q: does Lipitor cause itchy skin in some users?
Have been on Lipitor for the last twelve months, in fact I stopped taking it two days ago. I am always seeking out the conclusion" paragraph of various studies. I not only dont like most of what I read but now I can add my personal experience. Having had joint and muscle pain I am still experiencing itchy skin. I know that every drug has some side effects especially Lipitor so I am starting myself on POLYCOSANOL which is made from the wax off sugar cane. As for my Dr, Ill tell her after 3 months. I have two questions, firstly is there anybody out there who has also experienced ithy skin on Lipitor and secondly has anybody had good results with POLYSOCANOL. Nearly all the studies lean positively towards polysocanol. Some people say that these "natural" substances are not FDA approved, but my argument is ...well what about the side effects of some of the approved ones"? There is truth in both, but in this instance Ill go for the Polycosanol.
A:don't they have the side effects printed on the drug package?

100% Q: have you had side effects with lipitor an antistatin which decreases blood lipids?
I have had pain in the legs and joints on only 10mg and have gradually weaned myself off lipitor and have started (2 days ago) on Polycosanol (10mg) which is natural and made from the wax off sugar cane. I really need to know whether anybody has had good results from polycosanol (it is the basis in most cholesterol lowering agents, but can be maketed under different names). I know only too well of the terrible side effects Lipitor can cause and will never take it again even though my experience with it has been mild compared to others. So far my research has been positive on POLYCOSANOL but would like to hear from other users. Thankyou

100% Q: As a type 2 diabetic (well controlled) I have decided to come off LIPITOR an antistatin.?
After twelve months on Lipitor at 10mg to lower my cholesterol, I am having joint and muscle pain and am now (after doing my own research) weaning myself off and will be going on POLYCOSANOL which is natural and made from the wax off sugar cane. It is well known that antistatins can have terrible side effects. Research studies on Polycosanol are divided but tend to lean more to the positive, so I will give it a go. Is there anybody out there who has had reasonable results with this? I am posing this question in the diabetes section as many diabetics also suffer high blood lipids. Thankyou The question mark(?) in the question was a typo error, in fact an exclamation mark should replace it.
A:I am not a diabetic just a pharmacist. If you were having joint and muscle pain with Lipitor, there are other medications out there for increased lipids that are not statins that may help. Some examples are Niacin, Zetia, Omacor (triglycerides), Questran,..... It is my opinion that you are probably better off talking to your doctor and trying one of these other medications first. There are too many "natural" products available that we don't know enough about because they are not regulated by the FDA. Also an FYI....if you get off the Lipitor and your pain does not disappear...it was not caused by that medication. Hope this helps.
