kidney surgery for blockage

There are a number of documented cases of historical figures and distinguished members of society who were kidney stone formers. This condition is caused by nephrolithiasis, which are more commonly known as kidney stones, or urolithiasis, where the stone forms in the urinary system. These are crystal deposits that can accrete in the urinary system when certain chemical substances become concentrated in the urine.[1] Among the symptoms associated with nephrolithiasis are intense colicky pain, nausea, fever, chills, and the reduction or blockage of urine flow.[2] Historically, the condition of having a kidney or bladder stone was referred to as "the stone" or "the gravel".....

Will they do a blood test for the follow up a week later? I'm curious. I've never had surgery, and do not know what to expect. I don't want to wait until they tell me about it. I would like early satisfaction :P

100% Q: My two year old male cat has recently had emergency surgery for (chrystals in urine) blockage.?
The vet said I caught it early and there is no kidney damage. After surgery he was taking a medicine "Torbutrol" to control the spasms he was having when he tried to urinate. This worked. It has been almost two weeks and just in the past couple of days he won't consistantly use the litter box (his own upstairs). I have taken him outside on his leash and after he is out there a bit he will urinate. This is also a problem when he has his daily bowel movement ( on my son's magazine, in the middle of the floor, under my bed...) I need him to USE the LITTERBOX. I have two 8 year old females and one other old very mellow male. I calmly deal with each occurance. I know anger will only make it worse. I am experienced with cats/pets in general, but this situation is frustrating !!!!!!!!!!!!!! That being said... If you have experience with this please tell me about your situation and anything that worked for you and your cat. He had surgery, so he Has seen a vet. My vet has him on a prescription moisture filled diet. These things are not the problem. Someone with a Personal Successful Experience please respond.
A:Please consider putting him on a canned food diet as he needs the extra moisture and the protein will acidify his urine to reduce the build up of stones. FOr more info from a vet who knows nutrition see www.catinfo.org edited to add: moisture and pH are the main culprits, so while I haven't had a blockage in any of my cats, I think the link I've pointed to you is valid. See what it says anyways!

100% Q: Has anyone had surgery for UPJ obstruction? (Kidney)?
I will soon be having surgey for UPJ obstruction. I was wondering if anyone else has had this and how much pain it was. I have had this for about three years now and finally found a doctor with enough since to find out what was hurting me. I had surgey about two months ago for a complete blockage in my right ureter and now my kidney will not drain right. I had a stent for two weeks but since they took it out my kidney is barely draining now. So, has anyone had the surgey? They will be cutting my ureter and attaching it to another part of my renal pelvis (Kidney). Sounds painful!! My kidney looks like a balloon on an I.V.P. I found another urologist to do this surgey. The other doc just pretty much did a quick fix. I'm going to U.A.B in Birmingham this time.

100% Q: Can a lg dog show several symptoms of kidney failure and have normal bloodwork? What else could be the cause?
Healthy, 106 lb. rottie suddenly lost appetite, became lethargic, started vomiting severely, drinking huge amts. of water. Vet said all blood work, including creatinine, etc. were perfectly normal. Dr. did exploratory surgery, looking for blockage, etc. Nothing found, all organs appeared normal. He never stopped vomiting, never recovered after 10 days or so. Added at 7:16 pm CDT: He never recovered, he died on Feb. 5. He had been eating Old Roy "Gourmet Balance" dry dog food, supplemented by occasional can of Alpo Prime Cuts with Gravy when he got sick. He had been on a diet of Purina dry food prior to this one bag of Old Roy. My hubby was in hospital, my dog was out of food, I ran by WalMart, grabbed the green bag of dog food, didn't realize til I got home that I had Old Roy, NOT Purina! He didn't seem to like it, but finally gave in and ate some of it off and on for about a week, finally became extremely ill. A:My family just lost our 4 yr old bulldog Feb. 8th this year with the same symptoms as mentioned. The first day when he got sick his eyes looked sunken then he vomited his stomach contents along with healthy bowel movement ( no diareha) and urinated in the house, I immeditally took him to the vet they ran bloodwork, gave him a shot of antibiotics, some iv fluids and told me to callback the next day for results on the bloodwork and sent us home. When I called the vet said everything was fine in the bloodwork and that maybe he just didn't feel good and monitor his water intake and if anything else happens to take him to the local animal hospitol. Well later that day he started vomiting and while vomiting he collapased and stopped breathing, I shook him and he came back to so my wife and I rushed him to the hospitol where again they did bloodwork (again showing nothing) had him housed in an oxygen kennel for 2 hours did 4 x-rays to make sure he didn't have pnumomea, iv fluids, etc and kept him overnight. When my son and I picked him up the next night it was as if he was never sick and told us he should be fine. The vet required him on a diet of boiled rice and hamburger along with a couple of prescriptions for anti-nausea medication, antibiotics and something else that I now can't remember, along with that I had to get Pepto and Pepcid to give him and also yogurt. He was doing fine for the full 3 days he was home and also the 4th morning of the day that he died on, he ate everything had normal bathroom movements, but when my oldest son came home from school that day he had found that he had past away. The food that I fed him with is Walmart brand Ol' Roy Kibbles Chunks 'n Chews dry dog food. So I don't know what to do he has since been cremated so I don't know if he had suffered any type of renal falure but I still have the food and thinking about having the food tested because if the dry food is a problem then I want to know and should have that info given out to the public. He was the second family member that we had lost in 3 years, our first bulldog lived to a grand age of 13 before developing cancer in his lower jaw and needed to be called home, but before he had moved on I felt our family would make that transition from our loss easier if we brought in another family member and it did, but with our latest setback there was noone there this time to help us move on because of the suddenness of what happened.
