A:I'd like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it's hard to understand why people don't stay home. Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home.

A:Staying in Monterey versus Carmel is a good decision. Pacific Grove is not far from downtown Monterey. Well....as tourists go, the walk is not long considering the view you see. It is quite a long walk though. We stayed at a hotel downtown and walked all the way to Cannery Row, Pacific Grove and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Monterey Aquarium is within the Cannery Row / Pacific Grove area so you can hit the wonderful shops there as well. Check out the Antique shop housed in a warehouse across the Monterey Aquarium. They have great memorabilia stuff and a lot more for both antique and non-antique lovers. Aside from Point Lobos, also drive to Point Pinos Lighthouse. We checked it out but unfortunately, they were closed. Check the many brochures available at the hotels (or inquire from the hotel) what day in the week it is closed so you don't go there on that day. In Monterey, you can also enjoy Fisherman's Wharf. Just like in SFO, there are many restaurants to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed Fisgerman's Grotto, so you may want to check it out. Also, there is this restaurant about 2 doors down from Walgreen's, which is not to miss! After a dinner there, we never had breakfast at our hotel again. I am sorry, I forgot the name but I will post it later once I search our vacation photos. (Tip: this restaurant has the biggest, giant, almost,.......slice of cakes ever.....and simply delicious!) You can drive to Carmel via the SCENIC 17-Mile Drive. A MUST when you visit Monterey/Carmel. The 17-Mile Drive takes you from Monterey with breath-taking coastal and surf views of Ocean Drive, the Del Monte National Forest and onto Carmel. On the way, you have many other sights and scenic overlooks such as Pebble Beach, Lone Cypress, Shepherd's Knoll etc.. There is an entrance fee of $9/vehicle at the entrance of the 17-Mile Drive, which is located in Pacific Grove. The fee is refundable with minimum purchase of $25 from the Pebble Beach rounds and restaurants. However, I suggest you take out some food/snacks and drinks from downtown for a picnic at Pebble Beach or the many stops dotted along the way by the beach. Keep the ticket for your return trip, however, we were told we could have taken the other route (via Highway 1) back to Monterey for another scenic drive. BTW, I suggest, you start the day early, not later than 8am, to take full advantage of checking the many sights within the 17-mile dirve AND have enough time to spend in Carmel. In Carmel, visit the Carmel Mission. Good luck and enjoy your trip! P.S. A map with all the sights along the 17-Mile Drive is provided with your fee. A:A compact rental car is the best option to go for ease of travel. It may not be the cheapest but it is the most efficient and it will give you the most flexibility to get around. As for length of stay in each city it will depend on what you want to do in each city. I've been to all of those cities and I would recommend 2 full days for Napa and Santa Barbara and probably 4 days for LA, SD and SF. I would also recommend leaving time for spur of the moment trips such as to one of our many great State and National Parks.

A:I am going to be there on Christmas through the 3rd of Jan. My husband was born there, and a lot of his family is still there I hope that you have fun and Don't go swimming on the north shore in the winter time there waves will hurt you.

A:In Word, you should be able to find what you need. On your Toolbar at the top of the page: hit the 'Insert" which will give you the option of 'Insert Text Box' Once you have inserted the text box you can then change the size by putting your curser on the boundary of the box and clicking and dragging to increase or decrease size. Have a play with this for awhile and use Officve Assistant and Help menus to guide you. Good luck
