I am teaching 2nd grade this year and they are going to have a weekly homework sheet with certain routines but I don't want to start this until the second week of school. I still want to assign homework beginning on the first day. What are some good, easy assginments when the first week is shorter and will not be too concerned with academic work (mostly rules, class routines, and assessment)? Many thanks. ASSIGNMENTS- sorry!

A:Here are a few ideas: -Send home a copy of the classroom rules with a check box next to each rule. For homework, ask the students to check the boxes next to the rules that they think they will have the easiest time obeying using a blue crayon; using a red crayon, check the rules that they think they will have to work the hardest to follow and obey. (This activity will somewhat ensure that they have had to "contemplate" the rules and how they will apply to them personally.) -Ask them to draw a picture of what they envision their goals to look like this year. -Give each student a blank name card and instruct them to write their name on it and decorate it any way they would like. Once they are returned, use the name cards to help the students learn each others names. -Tell the students to choose 10 letters from the alphabet and find/write down 10 items in their house that start with each of the letters. Tell them that the class will vote on what item is the most unique.

Back when I was in High School, there were two assignments I loathed! One in English Class, one in Health Class. In English Class it was "Write about the Saddest day of your life", which I didn't want to share or re-live the pain, so I made something-up that was completely stupid. In Health class, I was told to write "Write a letter to your parents as if you are running away". I told the teacher "I forgot", when in actually I thought I was a really horrid assignment and refused. What are some rude and creative ways I could have wrote those assignments?

A:for the health letter, you could have written a letter saying how the stupid health class and horrible teacher were ruining your life, and you just couldn't take it anymore. every time you got a new assignment from your health class you went home and cut yourself to relieve hte pain. you know, lay on the angst. finally you felt like you had to leave the city to escape from the horrors of health class. that would have been funny/shocked the teacher for sure. not too subtle however.

I need to punish my 11 year old daughter who has brought me a few d's and 1 f grade. I thought maybe if she had writing assignments or math problems to do at home after her homework's done then she could improve her skills at school. Anyone know a website that would help?

A:I don't think you should use extra assignments as a punishment. If she is goofing off than you need to find a way to help her stay focused. If on the other hand she is having problems learning the concepts that are being taught she may need a tutor or you could try to explain to her the concepts, but just giving here a worksheet and say here do this is not going to work if she does not understand what she is doing. But to actually answer your question. Writing assignments are easy. Have her read a book and have her write a paper on the book (determine the lenght by words and not pages), and ask for particular thing in the paper. For math work sheets you can print online there are two sites I like: www.aplusmath.com www.superkids.com superkids.com is my favorite because there is more math comcepts than aplusmath.com and more subjects. P.S. both are free.

A:Most schools have their homework assignments online now so parents can monitor it. Have the director of your community center request a password into their school homework website. You also may be able to request that parents give you access to their individual homework files so you can monitor each child's particular assignments for each day and whether or not they were turned in on previous days.
