100% Q: Why does the government of Canada Not allow electric cars on the roads when they allow smart cars?
When other countries allow them why are the idiot conseratives like the minister of transportation and environment holding progress back? They must be getting money from big oil comapnies in Canada. For a Government that said no corruption with all they're scandals, one word comes to mind; hypocrites.
A:Smart cars run on oil-based fuel. That's the answer, plain and simple. It should be no surprise to us that the Alberta-strong Conservatives are acting like this. None of the Conservative MP's have actually driven a Zenn car, yet the government has seen fit to ban them. Hmmmm. HMMMM. Electric cars WILL be there soon. A number of companies are planning to have electric cars completely capable of going highway speeds running off the line between 2010 and 2012. The technology exists, it just needs to be developed for the mass market. The question is, is Canada going to see this? Are the Canadian car dealers going to keep up with the rest of the world, or are they going to be ostriches with their heads stuck in the (tar) sand? If Canada doesn't keep up with the technology of the rest of the world, our industry sector is going to be flushed down the toilet. Oil hit $110 a barrel yesterday. Looks great if you are an oil company making money off of this. But to us poor suckers paying for the gas to run our legal non-electric cars....

100% Q: Why does the government of canada take so much tax on employee bonus?
Why is employee bonus being taxed so much in Canada? it seems to be taxed separately from regular income tax and then when tax time comes, it's still being added to the total income of the individual. It's like there is not even a point in getting a big bonus because half of it just goes to the government.
A:Hi Curious! Without getting into sharing my socio-political and/or economic views on the Canadian Government, I'll attempt to answer your question. Any bonus you receive which is not part of a normal paycheque, for example a Bonus Cheque, has to be done a bit differently. First, the amount of CPP and EI that you pay is prorated. When your employer lists his pay periods (monthly, annually, biweekly, etc) he is given an EXEMPTION amount on the CPP. If there is an extra cheque issued, such as a bonus cheque, then the exemption does not apply. That causes an increase in the amount of tax you pay right off the top. For Example: If you're paid $1000 Bi-Weekly, CPP is calculated like this: $1000 - 134.61 (the exemption amount) x 4.95%. = $42.83 Paid to CPP. IF you're given a $1000 bonus cheque, CPP is calculated like this: $1000 x 4.95% = 49.50 Paid to CPP. On top of this, you have the EI deductions and then taxes. When a Bonus Cheque is issued, all of the normal deductions do not apply but there is good news!! At the end of the year when you file your taxes, it will ALL come out in the wash. Bonus money is only taxed as extra money at the time you earn it. On your T-4, the money is all counted as income so the extra tax you paid will be recouped. I know it's complicated, and I don't agree with the method but I hope I've been able to provide some sort of explanation or at least reassurance that you're not getting double-hit! Good Luck and hang in there! :)

100% Q: What should the Government of Canada do about this ? ?
In some countries, criminals are using the lure of " Jobs in Canada " to rip off innocent people, who think that the crooks can get them into Canada. This has created a really negative image of our country, and I think that the Canadian Government should do two things. Place ads in local papers in counties like the Philippines, to make it clear how our immigration system works, and second, work with the Police in those countries to prosecute the scammers . Surely we owe it to our own reputation, internationally, and morally, to cut this off at the source of the problem. Your ideas, and suggestions about this growing problem ? Jim B. Toronto. Folks " What I am talking about is Canada's international reputation, as a country. When a crook rips someone off, by using OUR country as a lure, it makes US as a country, look really bad. At the very least, our External Affairs department should be trying to get the countries where these crooks have their servers located, to shut them down. We have all seen the questions on Yahoo answers , about unsuspecting people, who are desperate to come to Canada, who have been sucked in by these email scams. It needs to be dealt with by our government. Karen C : You misunderstood my suggestion. Police in the countries, where this is happening, need to be supplied with correct information, by the Canadian Government, to assure convictions, in their courts. I'm not saying that Canadian police are going to go there, to investigate the cases. Our Consular officers, who work there, should be helping to get convictions of these vultures.
A:I don't know. It's not just Canada, it's also jobs in Australia, the USA and many other places. I think it's not up to Canada to correct it, it's up to the buyer to beware of scams. There was a guy on the immigration website who was in India, he had been offered to buy a 2 year work visa in Canada for $7000. He was going to do it, he had already sent his passport to Ghana and was trying to figure out how to send the money. He refused to believe it when 10 different people on there told him it was a scam. Sure you can spend money on ads in the papers in India and the Philippines and many other countries but the scammers are placing ads too. People believe what they want and it's way nicer to believe that you can buy a work permit somewhere than when somebody is telling them that they need years of education to have a chance and years of processing ahead to be approved.
