franchising
Franchising refers to the method of practicing and using another person's philosophy of business. The "franchisors" authorize the proven methods and trademarks of their businesses to "franchisees" for a fee and a percentage of gross monthly sales. Various tangibles and intangibles such as national or international advertising, training, and other support services are commonly made available by the franchisor. Agreements typically last five to twenty years, with premature cancellations or terminations of most contracts bearing serious consequences for franchisees.....

100% Q: What are the cons of franchising out a successful business?
I want to venture into franchising. I had a prospect, a car accessories chain. When I inquired, I was told that all their outlets were company-owned and that they don't franchise out their business. I don't understand why. Will a particular company spend extra if they venture into franchising? Help please.
A:There are plenty of good books and magazines on franchising. The problem with franchising is simple - there are likely to be lawsuits when the franchise occasionally fails - even McDonald's has failures. There is an ethos for the group. There need to be sophisticated management skills. It is a completely different and more complex business.

100% Q: How do I approach a business to entertain the possibility of franchising?
I found a business, and I love their concept. I'd love to expand their business as in investor, but don't know how to approach them. They are privately owned and NOT currently franchising. I want them to take me seriously, so what kind of documentation would you recommend I have prepared? Business plan? Financial statements? Should I treat this like franchising is already available, or is that too premature? Perhaps I simply start with a letter? I want to step off on the right foot, so someone please help.
A:Your idea of beginning with a letter to the principles of the business sounds like your most logical course of action at this point...Franchising a business model requires an enormous amount of preparation which, may not be attractive to the operators of the business you wish to enjoin with...
Perhaps they would be open to another arrangement...like allowing you to open a second location under a simple licensing agreement in which you can use their name, logo signage etc. for a predetermined fee.
Have a happy day...Good luck.

100% Q: How is the return on investment (ROI) for franchising a Kumon?
I'm interested in potentially franchising Kumon. Can someone tell me whether the ROI makes sense?
A:It really depends on where your center is located, how many students you have, how long they stay, etc.
My boss has about 180 students and she is doing okay. It basically comes down to marketing and how good you are of an instructor.
Good luck!

100% Q: What are some REAL franchising opportunities not crap money pits?
Everything has already been done. The I phone wasn't introduced using a pyramid scheme or franchising. Is anything fresh left to start up? Will I work for someone else for the rest of my life. Kill me now.....
A:Face it....if you open your own business you're working for some one else. And the term business owner is very, very wrong...the business owns you, but only for the first 20 years or so...if you're not spending time keeping the employees from stealing from you, or going out on their own with a very similar product and taking your best customers with them. Seriously, try a McDonald's...about half a million dollars for the franchise purchase...average pay back period is 16 months. They do the demographics, send you to McDonald University, have all the processes documented, the equipment, etc. It's a sweet deal...and you can buy as many as you want...if you can actually ever get one.
