flight path

A human-powered aircraft (HPA) is an aircraft powered by direct human energy and the force of gravity; the thrust provided by the human may be the only source; however, a hang glider that is partially powered by pilot power is a human-powered aircraft where the flight path can be enhanced more than if the hang glider had not been assisted by human power. Likewise, HPA inevitably experience assist from thermals or rising air currents. Pure HPA do not use hybrid flows of energy (solar energy, wound rubber band, fuel cell, etc.) for thrust. In nil wind, a flatland-long-gliding aircraft is a form of HPA where the thrust in the nil wind is provided by the running of the pilot; when the pilot loses touch with the ground, his or her thrusting ceases to add energy to the flight system and a glide begins; the pilot may or may not add energy after the pilot stops touching the ground. Humans who tow up a manned kite form one type of human-powered aircraft.....

100% Q: Flight path??
I am flying to Las Vegas from Atlanta in a couple of weeks and I am so excited. I have only been in a plane once before. I was wondering if there is somewhere I can look to find out an approx. path they fly so I can possibly know about where I am from time to time during the flight. I was wondering if there are any landmarks I might see. Would I fly near the grand canyon, could I possibly see the Hoover Dam,??? Thanks
A:As to the flight path, get a globe (not a flat map) and stretch a string between Atlanta and Las Vegas. This will be pretty close to your flight path. Unless you pay a lot of attention, or the pilot points it out, it can be very difficult to identify landmark when looking straight down on them. Try looking at different landmarks using the aerial view of Google Maps or Microsoft's product. Here are the links ... http://maps.live.com/ http://maps.google.com/ As to Hoover Dam, if you have a window seat on the left side of the jet, and the jet lands facing west, you will see Hoover Dam just before you land.

100% Q: What is the flight path from Los Angeles to London?
Does anybody know what the flight path is from Los Angeles to London England? I'll be going to England next year & curious about the route that commercial airliners use. We are trying to guage how long it will take having kids and nervous flyers traveling. Looking for map showing areas or Countries that we will be flying over.
A:If you are flying nonstop, you can expect to take a northeasterly course out of Los Angeles that will probably take you over Las Vegas, then Salt Lake City, then track from the southwest corner of Wyoming to the northeast corner, over Bismarck, then over the eastern portion of Ontario, Canada, over Hudson Bay, then northern Quebec, then over southern Greenland, and then northern sections of the UK as you descend into the London area. This is generally a Great Circle route. The link below shows as much of the flight path as FlightAware can manage for United's daily nonstop flight from Los Angeles to London. The other carriers on the route will also fly a very similar path as well. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL934/history/20080804/2105Z/KLAX/EGLL

100% Q: Is there a website that tells me what flight path I will be taking when i go on holiday?
I'm going from Newcastle to Fuengirola (Malaga, Spain). Is there a way I can find out which flight path I will take?
A:Specific flight paths vary day to day, flight by flight due to weather, air currents, etc. For a general idea, go to a site like http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm . This site calculates the shortest flight path between your two cities, and your aircraft's flight path will relatively similar to that. Since you are not flying in an American city, this is the only way I know to see what flight path you may take. Hope this helps.

100% Q: What is an example of a curved flight path being shorter than a straight line?
I need to know a flight that is curved, say so it goes around the north pole, to be quicker than a "straight line".
A:I guess the confusion arises because of maps used. The map's map the 3D structure of the earth to a 2D flat sheet and it would appear that the straight line is the obvious answer. You can verify it yourself. Take a soccer ball and mark two points anywhere on its surface. Try connecting these two points and you will find that the shortest path is the curved line called the great circle (the plane of the great circle passes through the center of the sphere, here it is earth). Now if you are mathematically curious, try mapping these points using some cordinate system, from 3D to 2D and you will see that the shortest distance between two points on the surface of the earth is a curve. Intrestingly, if you draw a straight line between these two points in the above mentioned 2D coordinates and map them accordingly in a 3D sphere, you will find that the "straight line" is actually longer!

I want to see the exact flight the airplane is going to take.
A:Try http://gc.kls2.com/ they have a flight path map. Hope this helps.
