A:I have been to the endo many times. I have hyptothyroid with hyperthyroid symptoms. I.E. weight loss instead of weight gain. In all of my visits to the endo, I have never had a bad one. Usually all they do is feel your throat area to check for a goider (sp) and take blood to get your accurate blood count and thyroid levels. Once diagnosed with thyroid disease they may have you do a few other tests to check your thyroid. I have never had a painful test. and then they figure out which medication is right for you. I was on synthroid for the first 6 years and then I started to get "sick" again. They then switched me to endocrine which supposedly comes from pig thyroid. This medication i was on for 2 and a half years, then I was taken off and have been med free since. I do however, have to get my thyroid checked every 2 or so years to make sure that it is still working properly. Hope this helps! Good luck!

A:to become an endocrinologist you would need to spend quite a few years in training..... After 4 years of Medical School you would need to complete a residency in Internal Medicine (usually 3 years) and then find a fellowship in Endocrinology, this specialty is pretty competitive in the US, I'm not sure how long an endocrine fellowship. But to answer your question about salary just like every other job it depends on where you live and what the competitive salaries are in your area. I know that in Pennsylvania a person in their 4th year of training after medical school makes less than 50k. Hope this helps and good luck we need more docs that specialize in this area!

A:You can see either. An endocrinologist is more for complex problems and cancer. I have seen both and find the family doctor more open to new ideas, where the endocrinolgist is more set in their ways and will not vary off the course. I wanted to use Armour thyroid, but endo refused because it came from pigs. I switched to a family doctor to treat my hypothyroidism and got on Armour. It was the best move I made and 95% of my symptoms are gone. I guess what really matters is if you can find a doctor who will work in a partnership with you.
