A:You need to change each one to a fraction, a percent, or a decimal. So for the first one: 1/2 = .5, 45% = .45 and you have .8, so .8 is the largest. 1/25 = .04. you have .08. and 5% = .05, so .08 is largest. Do the same with the other two and you will be able to work them out.

A:I teach third grade math and notice children do have trouble answering the equation. Usually they don't have trouble solving it in this form. They have more of a problem if it was set up like this: ______= 8 + 4 As soon as you switch the problem around they look at you like you have 10 heads. I always teach this using a balance scale. I try to show them whatever is on one side of the equal sign has to be on the other. But the one thing that works is if they just rewrite it the way they like it.: 8 + 4 =_____

We're doing Algebra and it's GREAT! I hear the lower levels (Pre-Alg, Math 7) are even more fun! Some is done via the CD-roms, some in a workbook, so you get a good mix of learning styles - especially still practice with pencil and paper, not just the pc (where my son would rather do all of his work). You'd just need to give the placement tests.) You could also look into AOP's Switched on Schoolhouse program. You didn't list a grade level, but I assume she's at least 3rd, which is where SOS starts.
