A woman bought a plane ticket for herself & one ticket for each of her four children. If she paid a total of $678 for all five tickets and each child's ticket cost half of the adult's ticket, how much did each child's ticket cost. 10 points for first answer & how to do it!

A:Say x is the adult ticket and y is one kid ticket. then 1x +4y=678 But also x=2y So, make x=2y negative by doing -x=-2y Bring the y over using the adding rule, making -x+2y=0 Then do elimination by canceling out the x's which are one and negative one. Then you have 6y=678. Simplify that to y= 113 That is your answer, so plz give me best answer!!!!

I wanted to see how easy this was for everyone and see if I should switch it around to make it more difficult. This is just for algebra 1. Divide 30 by X add 3 subtract 10 divide by 2, equals 415.

A:by order of operations.. i assume it looks like this (30/x) +3 - (10/2) = 415 (30/x) +3 - 5 = 415 (30/x) = 417 x = 30/417 >>>> 0.0719
