I'm searching for a Doctor for my mother who is 50 years of age. What are some areas of specialization that I should look in a doctor for my mother? Is it just a regular family doctor? Primary? A:First, you need to find a good general physician for your mom. If she has any ailments that require specialists, the general practitioner can refer her to someone. Need a little more info than "problems w/aches in particular body parts". Which body parts are you referring to? Could be anyone from an orthopedist to a neurologist. See a general dr. first. 100% Q: What are the best organizations to search for doctor accredidation?

I know of AMA, but is there somewhere else I should be looking? If my doc isn't listed on AMA, but is listed on California Medical Association, is that good enough?

100% Q: At my first doctor's appointment, I will be 9.5 weeks along. Will they search for a heartbeat?

I'm pregnant with #1 and in three weeks in my first doctor's appointment. I will be about 9.5 weeks along. Will the doctor search for the baby's heartbeat and do an ultrasound? Just wondering... I have no idea what to expect! Thank you!

A:They will. Don't freak if they don't find it, its still pretty early. They gave me an ultrasound at 12 weeks cuz they couldn't find my little brat's FH and it just was leaning real far back and was hard to get. You will more than likely have a pap smear done and have some blood work ordered. Be prepared to answer lots of family history questions too. Congrats and good luck!!

My mom speaks a little broken english, hasn't been to a doctor in over a decade since moving from Japan. I was born here, and i cant translate, i can understand japanese, but i cant speak it back, especially when there is medical lingo involved.

100% Q: How do you search for a new doctor?

I've had the same doctor my entire life. He recently retired. What's a guy to do? How do I find one that I can trust? I don't want to accept just anyone. (I've drove to another state just to buy shoes... I don't want to just pick a doctor cause he's like next door.)

A:Oh dear. I found myself in your position two years ago. The doctor that delivered me was my GP until I started having children of my own. He was killed suddenly. I still don't have a doctor. (my kids do but nobody wants me) Start by calling local offices and see which practices are taking new patients. Then ask which ones take you type of insurance. Then try them out. All you can do is try. A doctor with similar morals and lifestyle to your own is usually the best choice and you can't find out about the doctor without visiting them.
