diabetes specialist
Diabetes mellitus (IPA: /ËŒdaɪəˈbiËtiËz/ or /ËŒdaɪəˈbiËtÉ™s/, /məˈlaɪtÉ™s/ or /ˈmÉ›lÉ™tÉ™s/), often referred to simply as diabetes (Greek: διαβήτης - to pass through <urine>), is a syndrome of disordered metabolism, usually due to a combination of hereditary and environmental causes, resulting in abnormally high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).[2] Blood glucose levels are controlled by the hormone insulin made in the beta cells of the pancreas.[3] The two most common forms of diabetes are due to either a diminished production of insulin (in type 1), or diminished response by the body to insulin (in type 2 and gestational).[4] Both lead to hyperglycemia, which largely causes the acute signs of diabetes: excessive urine production, resulting compensatory thirst and increased fluid intake, blurred vision, unexplained weight loss, lethargy, and changes in energy metabolism.....

Q: 280 dollars to pay for first visit to an endoctronologist (diabetes specialist) , seems exagerated?
My new doctor does not accept any insurance and wouldeant to have me pay 280 dollars on th first visit, thatseems a lot tome. I understand that the law would not allow more than 15 percent more for any medicare disallowance, how much should i pay or can I pay? I am diabetic 2 so i need to see a specialist on diabetes
A:It sounds like a lot to you and I. Keep in mind that rent, support staff, furnishings, insurances and equipment are not cheap.
What you should pay is something I have no opinion on. Alternatives - talk to your doctor. If this endocrinologist is the only one in the area, your choices may be limited!

Q: Any specialist diabetes professionals out there?
My husband has type 2 diabetes and has been told he shouldn't buy a testing monitor. I disagree, as I feel he should know what his blood sugar is to know if his diet and medication is working. Also, if he is unwell for any reason it would be better to know what his blood sugar is doing at the same time. Any thoughts?
Hi - thanks so far. It was his GP who said that he'd keep an eye on his blood for now - it was 22 before he started medication. He's just had another blood test and we're awaiting the results. Trouble is, he won't go against the doctor!
A:I'd be finding another doctor. All doctors tell you to test and test often. You need to know how foods and medication is effecting your blood readings. Also if you get sick it changes your readings. I can sometimes tell a day before I start to feel sick because my readings get higher. Test, test , test.

Q: diabetes specialist or endocrinologist?
i'm finding that not all diabetes docs are endos but say they are specialists in diabetes.
whats the difference? should i get on the waiting list for the endo or just settle for the specialist?
A:go see an endo man or woman. they are much better qualified. I am an RN an do not understand what a diabetic specialist would be if not an endocrinologist. I am also a diabetic and go to an endo woman. She is a diabetic specialist.
