Job Control Language (JCL) is a scripting language used on IBM mainframe operating systems to instruct the system on how to run a batch job or start a subsystem. The term "Job Control Language" can also be used generically to refer to all languages which perform these functions, such as Burroughs' WFL and ICL's OCL. 100% Q: What's the difference between Sales, Customer Service, and Retail? And a few questions.?
I want to apply for a job and these are under the preferences. Sales, Customer Service, Retail.
What's the difference between each?
And what/which is the job where the person might walk around going "Can I help you?" and do the cashier as well....in a department store?
Also, is this a good example of a resume...for someone with no work experience who just wants a summer job?
http://jobsearch.about.com/library/samples/blhsresume.htm
I remember they said something about achievements and volunteer work at school...
Thanks in advance =)
A:Hmmm... Are you looking for a position in customer service face-to-face or via telephone (as in contact center)?
I'll try to answer all your questions:
Regarding the resume sample you showed: Strictly speaking, you said you have "no work experience who just wants a summer job." I believe the resume you showed is not appropriate. Better use a Functional resume. Here is a sample: http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/pdf/resume_functional-resume.pdf
But remove the Skills Summary as it may not be appropriate.

On your question about difference between Sales, Customer Service and Retail:
Sales is, in a nutshell, selling. You try to persuade someone to get your product or service in exchange for money or credit. You may do this face-to-face, via letters, via phone, etc.
Customer Service is a function of a business (company) that seeks to establish relationship with their customers. With most businesses, though, they seem to limit customer service to a function that reacts to customer complaints. In theory and best practice, customer service should be proactive--you prevent customer complaints. You "do" customer service maybe by answering questions, selling stuff, troubleshooting devices, identifying and resolving problems, among others.
Retail is a type of selling--meaning you sell to individual end-users and in minimal amounts, as against wholesale.
The answer to your question on "which is the job where the person might walk around going "Can I help you?" and do the cashier as well....in a department store" might be a promotional clerk, "merchandiser", cashier, or retail associate, or any term that the company has thought of to make it unique and pleasant to the ears. The company normally would indicate what is the position available. Use that in your resume to clearly indicate with which position you're interested.
I'd suggest you learn more about the company, position AND yourself first before writing your resume. This would allow you to present yourself better with the resume and with the interview. This link maybe helpful: http://jpo.esynergy.googlepages.com/jobapplication
Hope this has been helpful. Good luck to your hunt!

100% Q: Resume help for a lot of professional experience at one Job??
During college I had 3 to 4 different jobs revolving around computers. Webmaster, technician, web developer, ISP customer services, etc... I was able to leverage this for my first entry-level computer oriented career job after I graduated college.
After 8 years, I'm now looking for a new job... I became a manager there, and I got a lot of good experience with that company, but how do I reflect this in a resume?
1) Do I even mention the previous positions... most of my past jobs were less than a year long. and maybe next to the experience of my current company, i'm not sure it would compliment
2) Does anyone have sample formats for this kind of situations? any links?
Thanks
A:The previous answer from Philip R was a good one. You really need to focus on your experience and state it in terms of accomplishments, as Philip suggested. I've been a hiring manager (in IT, as a matter of fact) and hiring managers want to know what experience you have, but they also want to know how that experience translated to results in our previous job.
Here's what you should do on your resume. Use a "chronological" format (see the reference link below for a good example), showing your jobs in reverse chronological order, with your most recent one first. Even though you've been with same company since you graduated from college, I'm sure you had several different positions in that company. List each position, with a brief description of your job duties and several accomplishments. This shows career growth and that's a very positive thing to have on resume.
After this job, list each of the jobs you had in college, but just give a brief description of what you did and make sure to point out these were college jobs. This shows that not only did you complete college, but you had the discipline to get jobs that complemented your career choice. This is also very good to have on your resume. Hiring managers love to see this kind of stuff (I know I do!).
I think you'll have an impressive resume: several relevant jobs in college, followed by eight years of stability and upward growth with your current employer. I love to get applicants such as you!.
Good luck with your job search.

This is my regular resume::...
Everytime I apply for a retail store at the mall or wherever for a part-time I never get a call back....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate it....Thanks a bunch!!
A:Wow, It looks like your over-qualified for JUST a retail postion. But I can tell you one thing...your "resume" gave me a headache, its too much stuff jumbled up. Make it more interesting, pick out ur KEY points not every little detail. List only the employment history that is relevant for the position applying for. You worked at a LAB....dont add that to a resume for a retail position that has nothing to do with retail.Too much information gets boring. Your education and the bank job alone should get u a job interview atleast.
By the way, It was very impressive. (Skill -wise)
