create map

Web mapping is the process of designing, implementing, generating and delivering maps on the World Wide Web. While web mapping primarily deals with technological issues, web cartography additionally studies theoretic aspects: the use of web maps, the evaluation and optimization of techniques and workflows, the usability of web maps, social aspects, and more. Web GIS is similar to web mapping but with an emphasis on analysis, processing of project specific geodata and exploratory aspects. Often the terms web GIS and web mapping are used synonymously, even if they don't mean exactly the same. In fact, the border between web maps and web GIS is blurry. Web maps are often a presentation media in web GIS and web maps are increasingly gaining analytical capabilities. A special case of web maps are mobile maps, displayed on mobile computing devices, such as mobile phones, smart phones, PDAs, GPS and other devices. If the maps on these devices are displayed by a mobile web browser or web user agent, they can be regarded as mobile web maps. If the mobile web maps also display context and location sensitive information, such as points of interest, the term location based services is frequently used.....

0% Q: I need to create a map from one central location to numerous sites. How do I create the maps and overlay them
planning pandemic flu distribution sites. need to create maps from one location to several distribution sites. How can I create a map that shows those routes as an overlay?
A:I make maps for a living, and what you're describing could vary a lot. If you want a simple map, and don't plan on using the software often, you could use a program like "MS Paint" or another image program, take an existing map from the internet, save it as an image and draw on the image with Paint tools. If you plan on using mapping often, you might want to invest in a version of ArcView by ESRI. It all depends on how complicated your maps get, your level of computer experience and comfort, and how often you'll use the software, as it's relatively expensive (thousands last I checked). 0% Q: How do I create a map to enclose with my wedding invitations?
We didn't ask the person who put our invitations together to do it. Is there an easy program to use to create a map with driving directions or somewhere on the internet that I can do it?
A:It's amazing that brides and grooms believe this to be necessary. Your guests will use their own maps or "gps" to get to the wedding (unless the actual wedding is being held in some out-of-the-way unknown spot). It would be acceptable to have directions to the reception available at the church for those who need them. Who leaves home for a wedding without knowing where they're going? Believe me, it's just one more itty-bitty detail that you shouldn't have to worry about.

0% Q: What software can I use to create a map showing where are my contacts?
I have an Excel database of about 100+ names and address of contacts in Northern New Jersey. Any suggestions for how I can create a map of their locations? I want to identify clusters of clients so I can service them better.
A:I use MicroSoft's "Map Point" and it is pretty handy. You can import from your Excel spreadsheet into Map Point and it will create a map with "Pin Points" where your contacts are located. I have found this to be a very effective tool for mapping visits in order to make the most efficient route. I hope this helps... Bobby

0% Q: How do you create a map linked to excel/google docs?
I want to create a map where people can see where an item has been sent, when it has been sent, when it has arrived, etc, that is linked to a spreadsheet. Where can I start figuring out how to do this?
A:If you read the google maps API you would be able create an overlay, or some such, with the data on a map of the delivery address or package whereabouts. You would also need to be able to use the tracking API ( if there is one ) of the package handling company. The link below will give you links to existing similar tools that you might be able to adapt. This is going to take a LOT of reading up to do, make sure you are not duplicating existing work done.

0% Q: Possible to create a map and mimic GPS signals so users can see their position in a building?
I wonder if its possible to create a map of a building, and use 'fake' GPS satellites to send signals to gps devices, so that users can see where they are in a mall? Users then wont be able to get lost when looking for a certain shop etc.
A:You do not need to fake GS signals. If you have a very good GPS unit (the ones the military uses), they are accurate within feet (or better). The problem in a mall is getting the satelite signals (assuming you can get the high end military GPS). You could develop a similar local positioning system (LPS vs GPS) with a number of transmitters in the mall so that any unit could triangulate it's position within the mall but the devise would have to be built to detect the specific signals from your transmitters. Another technology might be RFID tags (radio frequency identification devices). These are essentially passive electronic devises which react when queried by a RF transmitter/reciever, identifying themselves by reacting with a series of numbers. You have a good idea, the trick is to make it economically viable. good luck
