100% Q: support groups for parents of children with diabetes?

I am looking for online support groups for parents of children (infants and toddlers) with diabetes. My son, who is 16 months old, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and I am looking for as many resources as possible. I am particularly interested in feedback from parents whose children were diagnosed at a young age. I am also looking for coping strategies to deal with the inevitable anxiety, guilt,and frustration of dealing with a child with special needs. I would also welcome suggestions for online resources for building a healthy and diverse meal strategy.

Every year, Diabetes UK hold children aged 7~12 that give children with diabetes the unique opporyunity to partecipate in fun,adventurous activities and be among people who understand.It is often the case that children who attend these holidays are recently diagnosed and this can be an early step to learning about their own diabetes management and developing confidence, independence and a positive attitude to their condition.

A:There is no reason to re-invent the wheel. There is tons of information out there. Ask a local hospital or diabetes center to help out.

If a child has diabetes for a long time do they grow slower?

A:Height in Type 1 diabetic children *can* be affected for a few reasons: -If a child's blood sugar levels have been very high for a long period of time (an HbA1c over 9.0 for example), final height can be affected. If the child's growth plates in their bones have not fused yet and their blood sugars are brought under control, their height *may* "catch up". -Children with Type 1 diabetes often have Celiac Disease (often silent so it is not diagnosed in time) and Hashimoto's Disease (thyroid disease), both of which can affect growth without treatment. If the child is screened for these conditions and keeps their blood sugar in decent control, growth should not be affected, or not by much. If your child is not growing, please speak to their doctor. Rarer causes of growth failure can be growth hormone deficiency, which is rare in general but occurs more often in Type 1 diabetic children.
