100% Q: Where is a chart showing gas mileage at different speeds?

During the 1970's the speed limit was lowered on the freeways to conserve fuel. I was wondering how much a difference it makes. Is there a good web site with charts showing a typical gasoline powered car and what mileage it gets at different speeds? Every five miles per hour up to 100 miles per hour would be awesome.

A:don't know about a chart indicating fuel economy decreases as speed increases. too many factors such as drag, road surface, wind velocity and direction. fueleconomy.gov has some of the best information out there. EPA tests account for highway speed = 60 mph.

100% Q: Why don't MotorCycles get a lot better gas mileage than cars?

According to this Chart @ http://www.chuckhawks.com/standard_motorcycle_chart.htm ; ... and from what I've seen, the typical 700cc, 1000 pound cycle get maybe 45 mpg. A 3500-pound car/cage which is much more comfortable gets 30 mpg. Heck, the VW Jetta can get 40. Why aren't cycles more efficient? Maybe because that's not a big concern of the bike rider?

A:My Hubby's bikes get WAY better mileage than our crossover. (Bike approx 50mpg, "car" 18-20 mpg) His 4 gallon tank still needs filling twice a week when he rides it to work, just like our "car". But I'd rather be putting $10-$15 of gas in twice a week than $40-$50 twice a week. It depends on the bikes too. Also how the carbs or fuel mix is tuned. Heavy fuel will use more gas thereby compromising your fuel economy. To get the high speeds and rpm's takes more fuel. As for a car being more comfortable......Maybe. But it's more fun to ride a bike. Especially if your a woman (which I happen to be:)

100% Q: Can you add distilled water to E85 gas to get better gas mileage?

I have been told that the higher the octane level, the gas mileage is worse. If you have water in your tank on regular gas, it runs rough so you add STP or some fuel additive in order for it to mix with the water and burn such as alchohol. So why couldn't you simply add distilled water to your tank on E85 to get better gas mileage. On my company car, they charted out the expense on E85 versus regular gas and it was just under $1000.00 more expensive to run the E85. E85 I think is 105 octane. I think if they were to lower the octane somehow, the consumer could see the benefit of using it more.

A:The best mileage for any car is using the octane the manufacturer recommends for it. You see this especially with turbo-equipped cars. Adding water would be a very expensive mistake to make.

100% Q: Which 2007 convertible gets the best gas mileage?

My wife wants a convertible that is a gas sipper. She has no interest in horsepower or performance, she simply wants a car with good looks and gets great gas mileage. Anyone have any information? A side by side MPG comparison chart of all 2007 convertibles would be ideal. Thank you!

A:I don't have one (I drive an XJ8 Vanden Plas) BUT if I wanted a nice looking convertible that gets terrific gas mileage, I would go for a Mazda Miata. The new ones have a hardtop that will go down in about 10 seconds with the push of a button and they're so cute!!! They're small and of course, seat only 2 people but with gas prices today, even though I am a Jaguar lover, I might get the Miata myself instead of the Jaguar convertible. Maybe. :-) Have fun shopping!!
