100% Q: What all i will need to bring my ball python/corn snake home?
I am getting either a ball python or a corn snake sunday. What all things do i need for his cage? Please be specific in lighting.... Do i need to have an under tank heating pad? I have heard that they are useless in larger tanks (im getting him/her a 40 gallon tank) Once again... what kind of lighting does he need? I was planning on getting 3 lights, 2 days on the left and right, and the middle would be a black or red night bulb... sound good?
A:you should have an under tank heater and a light becaus you want the tank to be heated and the pad should only cover part of the bottom so the snake has a part of the tank to cool down other than that that sounds like a pretty good set up. You will want a water dish big enough for the snake to submerge itself in and possibly a hide box of some sort. you can buy a substrate of some sort the store should be able to help you with that but newspaper also works great and makes for easy cleanup. also i would ask them the last time the snake was fed and or ask for a feeding demonstration to make sure the snake doesn't have problems eating. Good Luck!

100% Q: what ball python snake morph should i get?
I'm going to this reptile show in september and people say there cheap. I'm looking for a morph ball python to buy but not sure which to buy. i could buy a spider, pasel(s), albino, lesser platy, pinstripe or a mojave. which would be best or can u think of any other that would fit in the £500 mark. cheers.
A:An Albino Ball Python can be one of the most beautiful types there is. If you find a high-contrast specimen, it really turns heads. The Pastel Ball Python can be visually formidable, but it all depends on what you come across. I have seen Pastel's that i cant take my eyes off of, but then i have seen ones that look like a dehydrated version of the Killer-Bee.

100% Q: Are their any snakes larger than a corn or ball python snake but smaller or same as boa constrictor?
I would also like it to friendly and active.
A:Hello; have you considered an Irian Jaya Carpet Python or a Woma Python? Both species match your requirements quite well, are generally very docile, are interesting looking, relatively low maintenance, and are in the size range you are looking for. Here are care/information sheets on both species; in case you are interested. :) Woma python: http://www.a1pythons.com/woma.html http://www.arbreptiles.com/boids/womas.shtml Irian Jaya Carpet python: http://www.acreptiles.com/pythons_carpet_irianjaya.htm http://www.acreptiles.com/carpet_python_care.htm I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :) Good luck! EDIT: Oh! if you'd like the over-all look and disposition of a Boa Constrictor but with a smaller size, and easier to accommodate care and maintenance needs; I would highly recommend a Hog Island boa. They are the smallest (averages four to six feet, though it isn't common for them to exceed five) and in my opinion the prettiest member of the Boa Constrictor family, and they have all of the great aspects of the Colombian Boa Constrictors and very few of the bad. :) Here is a care sheet on them; if you are interested. http://s48117.sites45.storefront-hosting.com/care-hogg%20island%20boa.aspx And here is a picture of one: http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/images/islandboas_07_f.jpg

100% Q: Is my ball python snake infected?
I just purchased a baby ball python and she seems very healthy, but I just noticed a black bump on her scales. It appears to be another scale, but is larger than the ones around it.
A:This sounds like mites, which is a common problem with newly purchase snakes. An infestation can cause some serious damage to her scales over time, so it is best to treat it. In Reptile Rescue we treat bedding with 7 Dust, just a little mixed in with the bedding. After 5 days, empty and thoroughly clean the tank. Bathe the snake in cool, not cold water, and replace the bedding. This should alleviate the problem. If you have any other reptiles, do not put your new snake with them until the problem is corrected.

100% Q: Is a ball python the snake for me?
So I want a clam snake that would like to be held. I heard ball pythons were good but it seems EASILY stressed. How would I keep the stressing down to a minimal or would you recommend anyother snake. (I don't want it to be super active while handling)
A:I've heard that too, but I think, to a point- all breeds of snakes can get stressed, you just have to learn how not to stress each one. I know when ball pythons get stressesd they become picky eaters. Another snake to consider would be a cornsnake. They are considerably thinner than ball pythons, but can also grow to be about 5 feet long. I just think of it like this. If you have a snake, you will probably be bitten by it at least once in your life. Cornsnakes have smaller heads and teeth. I would rather be bitten by a cornsnake, and I have been... so I know, trust me. Both snakes have been known to be relatively calm. You just have to handle them often (but, not after meals) so they're used to you. When you pick one at the store or breeder, make sure you handle it there. A snake that is very nippy and hyper at the store/breeder is less likely to become a calm pet than one that is already calm at the store. I chose my cornsnake out of a choice of 7 babies. Mine was the calmest there, now if I put my hand in the cage, she will actually crawl into it. It doesn't guarantee temperament, but it's a good place to start. If you can, try to find a reputable snake breeder or reptile store near you. They will be able to help you find what you want sooo much better than just one of those bigger pet store chains that know almost nothing about the temperament of their snakes parents. Both snakes are cool! I attached some snake-care links that may help you decide. Good luck!
