anaconda

Eunectes is a genus of non-venomous boas found in tropical South America, commonly called anacondas. An aquatic group of snakes inhabiting swamps and rivers, its members include some of the largest snakes in the world. Despite this, little was known about them until recently. The name Eunectes is derived from the Greek word Eυνήκτης, which means "good swimmer." Three species are currently recognized.[2]....

100% Q: How much dmage does a yellow anaconda do?
Just got my yellow Anaconda yesterday. I am almost positive i will be bit the first couple times i pick him up. Just wondering if anyone has been bit by a baby? The teeth look a little nasty. Just wanna know what to expect.
A:It can be unpleasant, for sure, but "shredding a cow" is not within the realm of reality. They have an impressive set of teeth, for a non-venomous snake, because their prey tends to be slippery and they haven't learned how to spin webs, yet. They DO have a lot of teeth, but they're fairly delicate and not really that long. So, when I say "unpleasant", we're talking along the lines of fighting and losing a battle with a rose bush, not a lion. Definitely something to be avoided as long as possible but, as you say, it's almost inevitable. No need to have the ambulance standing by, though. A tube of Neosporin w/pain relief and a bottle of New-Skin is about all you'll need.

100% Q: What is the biting power of an adult anaconda?
One opinion is that the Anaconda does not have powerful jaws & the other of coarse, is that it does. Anacondas are powerful animals there is no question. However, it uses its strength (Its body) to coil & constrict its prey and then swallows it whole. Specifically, the power of the snakes jaws are in question. My guess is that it really is no more than your typical adult German Shepard.
A:An anaconda uses its jaws to hold its prey while it coils its body around the prey the same as any constricting snake. I own a burmese python and it is almost impossible to open its jaws if it takes hold. The idea is that the muscles are so arranged so that they pull the mouth closed automatically and the snake has to deliberatley open its mouth if it so wants to. Also the teeth are arranged in the jaw facing back into the mouth so that they act like grappling hooks on the flesh of the prey. Power of the bite is immaterial if the snake has its prey in its coils not allowing it to breath. A dogs jaw is powerfull but it would let go well before an anaconda would. Also a dogs teeth are designed to cut and rip flesh not hold it.

100% Q: How does Anaconda compare to Volcano and Dominator at Kings Dominion?
I'm working on getting over my fear of roller coasters. I've ridden all the wooden ones at the park, and I've ridden Anaconda and LOVED it. I'm just nervous about Volcano (because of the launch and the fact it's inverted) and Dominator (because of the drop and loop). What can I expect with these two rides compared with Anaconda? Should I be able to handle them?
A:I have ridden Dominator when it was at Geauga Lake, and it is butter smooth. Anaconda is kinda rough, so you would probably like Dominatior better. It used to have the largest vertical loop in the world, I think it has since been surpassed, but no big deal; a loop is a loop. The drop isn't to bad either. Just a large, swooping dive into. Volcano shouldn't really give you any problems just because it's inverted, and the launch is over in a few seconds, so I suggest you just get it over with and have fun! :) Seriously, if you like Anaconda, you can do anything there. :)

100% Q: Is is possible for an anaconda or a python to be killed by a poisonous snake in its domain?
I have never heard of a python or anaconda being bitten and killed by a poisonous snake but also know that they are not immune to poison. They must share their domains with venomous species, but does anyone know of it actually happening?
A:I saw a video on the Discovery Channel once and they showed a large king cobra killing and eating a small reticulated python, so it's possible. But most of your non-snake eating venomous snakes, like vipers, tend to leave other snakes alone. I know here in the U.S., rattlers are often found sharing their hibernation dens with rat snakes, gopher snakes, and bull snakes. They don't view each other as a threat since they all pretty much eat warm blooded prey. Here's the video I was talking about, unfortunately this version is in German. Cool video nonetheless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usc3CPaakV4

100% Q: How did an anaconda and a hippo cross paths?
I saw the video where the anaconda regurgitates the baby hippo. Evidently it is possible that an anaconda can swallow a hippo, but what I want to know is how an African animal crossed paths with an animal from South America. (Please answer only if you really know)
A:Don't REALLY know but I have just been reading the wiki page where it describes a baby hippo rescued on an island after being pushed out to sea by a tsunami! Maybe this could explain it. Or maybe it wasn't a baby hippo Or maybe it wasn't an anaconda Or maybe men were involved in bringing the two together (like for a zoo or poachers or something)
